While I always like what Final Fantasy has to offer, I have to say the Kingdom Hearts series is definitely my favorite. And as subtle as it is, I really enjoy the sound score in Guild Wars too. :-)
Advent Rising has an amazing orchestral score to it. I am currently awaiting the delivery of the soundtrack for it. Phantom Dust has a pretty good soundtrack too. It's kind of a techno, haunting style.
Castlevania series, Final Fantasy series, The Legend of Zelda series, Mega Man series, Street Fighter series, Streets of Rage series, Phantasy Star series, Shin Megami Tensei series.
My personal fave original soundtracks in no order are God of War I & II, the amazing and always overlooked Gitaroo-Man soundtrack, FF6, 7 and 8, Kingdom Hearts, Zelda OoT, MegaMan 2, Ikaruga, and maybe Tales of Symphonia.
The Castlevania and Final Fantasy series have cranked out great music for years. I have several of the soundtracks.
And for whomever mentioned Advent Rising, I have to agree. It has one of the best soundtracks I've heard in years. Yet another aspect of one of the most underrated games I've played.
Has to be the Metal Gear Solid games, probably MGS2 the most. The main theme (that appears in all the games) it just...just.. touchs me deep down when it's being played slow (like when Snake visits the Boss' grave in MGS3). It's so well written and you should check out the live orchestra playing at video games live. I also love the music changes quickly when the mood changes in MGS games, yet still flows.
