I started with Mario Bros, TMNT, and the original Legend of Zelda but it wasn't until for sure, Mortal Kombat that I knew I was going to be a gamer for life. Lots of games did "it" for me during those days, Super Metroid, A Link to the Past, Turtles in Time and Jurassic Park....but none of these did it for me like the original MK did...and that got cranked up to 11 when MK2 came out.

How about you guys?

I honestly don't know.

I have been playing games since the early 90's. So I guess a few NES games probably got me into gaming. My mom went back to school so we got a PC pretty early on as well--DOS and Windows 4.1 I think were the first things I used to play some games.

Played many games prior, but it was SF:II Turbo, first "wow" game and only reason wanted SNES.

I don't remember my first games exactly. Mouse Trap on the Atari 2600 comes to mind. But I think the one that changed me and made gaming a lifelong obsession was Final Fantasy on the NES. My gaming tastes have changed over the years, but those early Nintendo RPGs were my bread and butter for years.

Games were few and far in between really back in the late 80s. There wasn’t much gaming to do so if a good game was out, I think people bought into it a lot. Having said that I would say super Mario bros on gameboy really got me into gaming.

King's Quest from Sierra Entertainment.

That wasn't the first game I've ever played. I've been around games before that. I've played various platform games on ZX81, my brother had a Commodere 64 that I tried on occasion. But when I borrowed a copy of KQ1 from someone I know I got hooked fast. In the beginning I just walked around looking at the scenery not really doing anything. But when I learned I could type in commands I was sold. After that I set out to borrow or buy every Sierra game I could get my hands on. I played almost every adventure-game from Sierra and Lucasarts I could find. And I've been gaming ever since.

One of the first was Frostbite on the Atari 2600,that was about 1983? Not a 100%sure on the year, could have been earlier? Also enjoyed Mouse Trap,Smurfs,He-Man,Night Rider, there’s quite a bit over the years I bought. I had over a 100 games for the Gemini/Atari 2600. Good memories as a youngster.

I use to dabble in games but found them more as stupid distractions. Only played them for social reasons at the local arcades, I considered the ones at home to be garbage. Was quite into DDR.

The first game that got me to appreciate video games for gameplay was Tekken Tag Tournament in the arcade. I was pretty addicted and enjoyed playing competitively up until Revolution and 7 which I think have soft-balled the series.

For single-player games it was Makai Senki Disgaea on the PlayStation 2, which was probably the first video game story I enjoyed. Fun pacing, good characters, and enough depth to keep it all together. Helps that as an SRPG Disgaea is pretty good too.

These are not the only games I enjoy, they just opened the doors to appreciating video games.

Super Mario Bros. arcade at Pizza Hut. Then one day went to my cousins house and he had it on NES. Up to that point I thought the only consoles in existence were the Atari and Coleco (had both) and was amazed that it looked EXACTLY like the arcade.

I remember seeing a Super Mario Bros arcade at this place I went to play soccer growing up by that point it was the SNES generation. I just remember how bizarre it was to see that game in arcade form because to me it was always a console game never knew there was a arcade version.

Yeah, this was the cabinet with Super Mario Bros. on one side and Hogans Alley with the light gun on the other. I cannot find a picture of the cabinet on Google. This was ~87 maybe 86.

It was originally for the Lynx but they ported it to other systems and they included it in Microsoft-released Windows Entertainment Packs so it came bundled on a lot of PCs. The PC versions took a bit of a hit graphically compared to the original version which leveraged some of the native hardware graphics features like sprite scaling that the Lynx offered but otherwise the PC version was pretty faithful.

Earliest gaming memory is probably me young af playing Duck Hunt on Nintendo with my big brother. It was probably FFVII that really got me into gaming, though. One of the kids from my neighborhood bought it day one but he didn't know it was turn based. He got so pissed and told me he'd sell it to me for $15. I ran home ASAP and asked my Dad and he gave it to me. Pretty unexpected but that was my introduction to the Final Fantasy series.

Sonic The Hedgehog 1. This not only introduced me to gaming, it's what started the burning passion I have for it and pursuing it as a career (like actually creating games or having a role in the development).

There was no single game, it was just us (my brother and I) getting a 2600 one Christmas (1983 or 84) that made me realize this was a hobby I was never going to let go of.

Definitely Minecraft. It took a long time for my brother to convince me that creepers were not going to get me every time I left my little dirt hut XD

After that, I was confident enough in my controller handling to try out Borderlands 1&2, Subnautica, and lots of other small indie games that have really grown my love for videogames in general.

The first game I played was Duck Hunt for NES. After I saw the intro, I realized that this is not just any other game. There were no heroes in the game, no princess to rescue, no bad guys. Just two ducks that were flying peacefully in the sky. I was five and I thought that the whole game was about shooting ducks. So I kept shooting at anything that looked like a duck. Later I found out that the game was not about hunting, but about shooting clay discs. The only good part of the game was that after completing the game, I could shoot my dog. Now, whenever I play Duck Hunt, I never miss the dog! And that’s how I got into gaming.

Was playing games for years prior to the games I'm about to list, but Command and Conquer really got me into gaming.

The game that turned me into a legit "gamer" was Half-Life, though; not only was it (and might still be) one of the best first-person action games ever created, but it opened my life to multiplayer, mods, and the virtues of PC gaming. I got internet for that game; I bought a video card for that game; I played mods for that game for years upon years. For 49.99, this game gave me a new hobby, years of enjoyment, and most of that for free or low cost (keep in mind that in the late-90's/early 00's you could get a video card for $200).

Yeah, was gaming since the early 90's and played a lot of classics, but Half-Life turned it from something I just did for fun into a hobby and passion.

Dig Dug on an Atari mom got cheap from the Sears catalogue. I’m not sure if it was an Atari 7800 or the 2600 “junior”, but it had that rainbow stripe.
