We're talking demos of all ages here, any system. Please don't be that guy that refers me to the Steam demos section. There's much more out there than that, and you know it.

What I'm asking is, what are some demos of games you've played in the past that you kept coming back to instead of immediately going out and getting the full game (if you ever did?)

Let me just list a few of my favorites.

Metal Gear Solid (PC version - more content and allows saves)
Deus Ex (with Mission 2 expansion)
Flatout 2 (Plenty of racing variety here)
Max Payne 1 and 2 (The amount of content here was generous for a demo)
Spyro The Dragon (The one on the Interactive Sampler Volume 8 Disc)
Halo: Combat Evolved (PC - People still played Blood Gulch on that until the Gamespy servers shut down, and it had my favorite campaign map)
Fuzion Frenzy (There's something I admire about knock off party games)
and finally
Dead or Alive 3 Bonus Content Preview (Included with a few XBOX Magazine demo discs. It had half the characters unlocked to play with in Time Attack mode.)

What about you guys? List as many of your favorites as you want.

Just reminding the forum that Konami suck :P

Maybe it was Battlefield 3, but they essentially had the whole game except it was one map. That was a great demo, I think I got up like 100 hours in just the demo haha. Actually I think they didn't let you advance your class but that's OK because no one else could, level playing field :D

This just reminds me of the PC power cd's you would get in the 90's, Carmagedon was a great one had like 4 maps 3 cars. Played it for hours when I was little.

Max Payne 2 demo really got me into the Max Payne series I can't count how many times I played that demo. It was the first game I believe to use the Havok's physics engine it was so fun and satisfying watching enemies fly in that game and it still is to this day.

Azura's Wrath. The demo was great but I couldn't see myself enjoying the play style for a whole game. Never bought it.

A few game demos come to mind :

1. GTA 2 on PC - The entire first city, including vehicles and weapons, on a 2 and a half minutes timer. We would take turn just trying to survive. It was visually impressive at the time.

2. Gearhead Garage on PC - It was a stupid garage sim. Loved it for some reason. Played the hell out of it.

3. Sonic Adventure on Dreamcast - Fantastic showcase back when the console was new. So much fun.

The original Doom shareware release. It pretty much stole the thunder from the 3-episode full game. It had one full episode, a number of multiplayer maps, plus fully LAN and mouse capable. It was essentially the full game minus two episodes.

It wasn't Doom that clogged company LANs and brought down productivity. It was shareware Doom that did all those.

I played a lot of demos. Tekken 3 was also one that was "almost" like a full game.

While I did buy Sonic Adventure on the Dreamcast, I wish that I would have just stuck with the demo of it since the demo included the only good part of the game.
