Which character has appeared in retro games the most?

Of all the legacy characters, which character has appeared (doesn't have to had starred in) in the most games?

Someone like Mario or Mega Man.

I'd think Mario. Megaman has been in a ton of games too, but I don't believe he's been in as many as Mario.

Definitely Mario. He's been in countless numbers of games, movies, tv shows, etc.

I would imagine Mario would be at the top of the list.

Mario,that guy is everywhere.

I think it might be mario. More than 100 games have his name in the title (just type Mario in to the search bar,) and that doens't include games like Donkey Kong and others where he makes a cameo appearence of some sort.
