Pretty much a follow up question to my KH vs. FF one. Either rank them or just one game in general.

I'd like to get everyone's perspective because I plan to play through 7 soon.

I finished X...and that's really the only one I've finished to be honest. Love that game. X-2 I gave a go but didn't get far with it ..... lol.

I did play a few of the DS titles and the one on the Gamecube but that's about it. Never finished them. I'd really like to familiarise with the series. I'm definitely interested in playing 8 and 9 after 7.

I’d go with Final Fantasy III/VI but VII, VIII, and X all rank really close as well.

My favorites are FFVIII & FFX. I like FFVIII because of the worldbuilding how epic in scope the story is. It's so well done that it really feels like you're a young military cadet in this fantasy world who gets caught up in wars and assassination plots and all types of other sh*t. The music with it's cadence drums as well as the way that people dress in different regions was done really well.

I also like FFX for it's story. Their use of a widely practiced religion also made it's world feel real. Music was also really well done . It also gave a significant graphical boost to the Final Fantasy series and introduced it to voice acting. One of my favorite Final Fantasy battle systems because you can change your characters during battle at any time which gives you the ability to fully utilize all of their strengths and advantages.

I never finish an FF game. I have four of them- 13, Lightning Returns, 15 and World of FF. So I don't have favourite.

But the one I liked the most was World of Final Fantasy.

I think it is universally understood that VII, VIII, IX and X are the core Final Fantasy games, recommended to anybody who has never played them before. They are the games that better defined the series as a whole.

The older games are really big with the purists, or people that grew with them in the first place. They have not hold up well to the test of time, and are difficult to recommend.

I like XII a lot, as it introduced a more solid battle system, and left random battle encounters behind. the more political, less emotional story is also a welcome addition.

Everything after XII, i don't really know what to think. I was not a big fan of XIII and family, but so far i am not hating XV.

@lucidique: FFX holds up just fine even played on PS2. The remastered versions on PS3, PS4, and PS Vita are amazing. The upgraded graphics, more modern battle system, and voice acting make sure of that

@heathen75: Agreed about Gau, best character in the game.

But yeah, III is my favorite.

FF7 without a doubt-. Its my favorite game of all time. Still have my original copy on the shelf and I also still have my original Playstation and the memory card with my save on. I maxed out the timer on the game too at 99:99:99.. so i have no official playtime either.

I dont know if i should play it again. I am afraid i would get disappointed.

Nothing original, but well made, easy to play.

V, XII and Tactics for me.

I love these three since they seem to offer the most freedom/options in your character building.

@lucidique: Most people say 7 because it was the first one they played, but I played it again recently and it has aged really poorly.

6 is easily the best of the lot, in my opinion. 4 and 6 really defined the direction of the series, while 6 has the best cast, best music, and the best moments/set pieces.

I played VI to completion once or twice. It's okay. I was never a huge fan of whole Terra / Magitek / Kefka combination, but a lot of people around me are big fans.

I definitely prefer VII for both general story and characters, but would agree that visually, it has not aged that gracefully.

Personally, i think Chrono Trigger takes the crown for best 16bit RPG and ended up overshadowing VI.

Then again, my personal taste.

I tried going back and playing FF 7 on PS1 recently and can't for whatever reason. The remake can't come soon enough.

X. The reason is I didn't play FF6, 7 or 8 until X introduced them to me so I can't say their impact was as felt as I imagine if I played them back then. X to me blew me away and made me love JRPGS.

Final Fantasy VII is the one that had the biggest impact on me. Sephiroth has to be one of the greatest villains of all time , and Cloud is a great character, love Aeris plus Tifa too. OH I should of just said i liked all the characters LOL
