What would you "KICKSTART" ?

i would like someone to do something like an open source, free, not-for-profit "GAME OS". this OS should have nothing that uses RAM other than games, an API to replace direct x (i mean everything should be focused on optimising everything for making games run as they should), it should not be controlled by a stifling proprietary thing such as direct x and by microsoft. if any game developer wants to modify(optimise) according to their needs, they should be able to do that. not only that even graphics chip makers can define and advance technology.

this, according to me, will make the cost entry barrier for gamers lower and will (hopefully) result in better games ( a la console level optimisation)

of course, i am no software guy to make this, so anyone listening?!

i wouldnt be too interested in a developer saying "hey, im thinking of making a sequel to that game you guys seem to like, so how 'bout a little help?" it seems like it puts so much pressure on the developer to make a safe sequel or to pander a bit because its like the gamers are buying the game in advance.

id rather pitch in for a developer i already think is good with the understanding that they are going to make something and i want to play it rather than the users paying money with specific expectations already in mind.

so if fumito ueda announced that he is forming a new independent studio and needed a kickstart, id probably help out. id have no idea what kind of game he would end up making, but id want that to be up to his team's discretion.

Hmm yeah I see what you're saying... What would you say to a kind of Minecraft-esque thing? Where they have this extremely basic alpha ready so you can get a feel for the idea of the game, and then you can purchase it to help the alpha advance into a full fledged game?

I would love to have a new proper Dungeonkeeper-esque game.

Alternatively, if someone was making a 1930s Film Noir Private Eye RPG/FPS hybrid game with similar gameplay and open environments to Deus Ex, I would back it in a heartbeat.

If Clive Barker shows up here and says: "Guys, I need money to start writing Undying 2," I'm taking out my checkbook.

Crimson Skies 2, Psychonauts 2, and Stranger's Wrath 2 would all see $100+ donations from me. Seriously.

My one big wish is that No One Lives Forver gets the recognition it desrves, so I would kickstart either a remake or a sequel to this very fun and unique FPS.
