wow, I just took a look at some of the games and there are some seriously good ones: obviously, halo2. great campaign and I will never understand the ridiculous negatives people attributed to it. for me, Riddick and I couldn't wait to by Athena. burnout 3, lol, what a fun game. my family still plays it together and is the only sport-type game I own. fable was ok, but, attempted some great things. oh man, I see that doom3 is on this list, too?! i'm still waiting to buy the bfg edition. half-life 2. kotor2. and, for me, pop:warrior within is one of those pure underrated games. people literally complained about the music and different tone of the setting, lol. the game combat was much better and the game was a much more mature and sophisticated game.
all I can say is wow, what a year in gaming. I regularly replay all of the games I listed. we're talking about some of the best games ever and so is this the best year of gaming in history? i'd love to see some other lists to compare it with.
One of the highest scoring games is half life 2 which came out in 2004, this is out of all platforms too. The game is just amazing :D

These games are the ones I remember from 2004:
Half-Life 2
Vampire: the Masquerade: Bloodlines
Far Cry
Chronicles Of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay
@kingcrimson24:
lol, san andreas came out that year, too? far cry and WoW?
yes San Andreas came out on October 2004 on PS2 , and in June 2005 for xbox
So many amazing games that year, just wow! I'd have to say Ninja Gaiden. Notable mention Halo2 mp, Half-life 2, MGS3. When will we get a year as good as 2004 gaming wise. sigh.
Wow, that's a tough one. It's either Ninja Gaiden or Far Cry for me. I'd probably go with Ninja Gaiden.
@Jacanuk: Haha, I'm just asking people what they think. Maybe 2004 is my favorite year? A lot of great games did come out that year which have shaped the games that we are playing nowadays.
San Andreas was the game that made me love open world action games and the GTA series.
Paper Mario: TTYD
Metroid Prime 2
Prince of Persia Warrior Within
Ratchet and Clank Up your arsenal
I think that's a fairly decent list of my favorite from that year.
Many of my all time favorite games came out in 03 and 04. What was it about that time? Maybe that's when developers had had enough time to fully utilize the capabilities of gen 6 systems.
I agree with most of the games people have already listed and will add:
DefJam: Fight for NY
Mario Power Tennis
Katamari Damacy
Alien Hominid
Metroid: Zero Mission
Warioware: Twisted
