I think without having to think about it too much, one game that comes to mind instantly is:
Mario Odyssey.

Lol, definitely agree about Odyssey.
But what do you define as recent? The last couple of gens? If so, I'd throw in games like Bioshock, Inside & Portal 2.
I dont buy a lot of games but being the Mario 64 fam that i am, i was pretty psyched for Odyssey. It didnt draw me in like Breath of the Wild. The motion controls were unnecessary imo. It lacked the structure of the other Mario Games, especially given the amount of content in the game, some of which should have probably been cut. I think it took me at least 1 year to 100% it.
Breath of The Wild is the only recent game id call a classic. Played that one while i had a dead beat dad trying to kill me(think pro trolling;pathetic) but i was so zoned in on Zelda.
BotW is a game that i try and get people to play. For example if they happen to be anything like myself where interest in games is largely set to the side--botw is that could.

Ok then... well I'll say Mario Odyssey & Inside are the main ones, followed by Witcher 3 & RDR 2.
Sonic Mania Plus, Witcher 3, Yakuza 0, Persona 5, Bloodborne, Nier: Automata, and Divinity: Original Sin 2.
This gen! :P
Hmm, that changes things. Time to add-
The Evil Within 2 I think is a grossly underrated classic. Though not quite as polished as Resi2Remake.
Dark Souls III adds elements of Demon's and a handful of needed improvements. Also gave PvP more layers. The Ringed City was also a perfect sendoff.
Divinity: Original Sin II is simply an amazing Tactical RPG with insane customisation and depth.
Tearaway what a lovely and creative platformer. I like what it does different from what we expect.
*I know some expect me to pick Monster Hunter: World but I'm waiting to see what Iceborne expansion adds. Huge difference to me stating what is ones favorite games and classics. Classics is something one has the confidence in the majority would enjoy.
I have a great time with World as a longtime fan, but 'classic'? Lacks a few things that made previous entry MH4G a masterpiece. And not all the changes benefited the overall experience, I'm heavily looking at scoutflies and the bumpy storymode.
Some of my instant classics that I would pick are:
- Breath of the Wild
- Super Mario Odyssey
- Resident Evil 2 Remake
- Devil May Cry 5
@speeny:
Uncharted 4
Spiderman ps4
God of War 4
Resident Evil 2 Remake
Red Dead Redemption 2
Persona 5
Injustice 2
Mortal Kombat 11
Fallout 4
Batman Arkham Knight
Detroit: Become Human
Doom 2016
Bloodborne & BOTW
RDR2....well, maybe. I'm under 30 hours into what I hear is a behemoth of a game so I can't say for sure yet.
It seems like every mainline Mario and Zelda game becomes a classic in some way tbh. I think a better question would be something more like what games will still be highly regarded 20 years from now. A lot of the games people are naming are just whatevers recently popular. A lot of these I dont think will have staying power.
@warmblur: saddly MK11 even tho it is really good. That game will be a door stopper in a few years.
60% of the games mode are tied to the internet ... without it you pretty much have the Story mode, Arcade ladder and the krypt. forthe rest if you don't have the internet it won't work.
Evil Within 2
Hitman 2
Cuphead
Prey
Ori and the Blind Forest
Hollow Knight
^-Games people will play in 20 years and still think super dope.
RE2 Remake brought the series back to it's roots while putting it back on track. Some people will credit RE7 with this, but I think it's RE2 that's done it by reminding people why they liked the series in the first place.
Evil Within 2
This calls for a celebration
Glad someone else liked this game a lot. Recently replayed it again on Classic. Sometimes wonder if I'm just bias towards Survival Horror games that don't turn into cinematic overkill.
But it's a bigger chance no one simply bought it. . Read it sold really bad compared to the first game.
Let's hope Ghostwire is worth the wait hmm?

This is exactly right. I though RE7 was good, but it did not give me the same feeling as playing the classics. RE2 is the best remake I've ever played, hands down.
