To be honest, I like my games to be good at telling a story, and also for the gameplay not to go stale after a while.

It needs to have action and RPG elements, also a nice plot(or at least a decent one), long campaign and nice multiplayer and cooperative modes.

1. Oh snap moments - these are the peak moments you remember long after you beat the game. 2. Atmosphere - Music, art-style/graphics, sound, story game play elements and how they mesh together. 3. Inherently fun gameplay - The game is just fun to play you can just pick up the controller and the enjoyment comes almost instantly, these games usually have good replay value even after you beat them just because it's the gameplay that motivates you more than just the story.

I think just generally one of those can make a game good, but all three make it great.

In order for a game to recieve a 10 from me, it needs to have-

-Great Story

-Great Gameplay

-Memorable and Likeable characters

-Must be Addicting

-Must have little to no glitches

-Great Graphics (For its time at least)

-Innovative

-Replay Value

it doesnt have to have all of these to be good, im not that picky, but in order for me to consider a game perfect, it needs to have all of these.

Very subjective question. It is like asking "What makes a food very delicious?"

Only 2 things are key for a good game: Sheer gameplay power Controls ^If either one is not there, the game is bad, but both of them is all you need to enjoy a proper game, regardless of graphics, sound, story, etc.

What makes a game very good is everything that 99% of the games made in the past 10 years don't have, and which can be summed up very easily:

Passionate developing out of love and fun, instead of a commercial job to pay the rent and fill some big company's pockets.

Good storyline, length (10-20 hours or more), decent graphics, good gameplay. Examples: Bioshock 1 & 2, all GOW's, Halo's, GTA SA.

There can be any number of combinations to make a good game, but for me it's usually story, decent graphics, exciting game-play, good multiplayer, and replayability.

  • Good characters/character development/character interaction
  • Battle systems which are fast paced, deep and open to many different playstyles (for RPGs)
  • Deep equipment customization.
  • High difficulty
  • preferably a length of over 30hrs for the first playthrough

Basically I play primarily for difficult and intense gameplay, high replayability and interesting characters within the game.
