Mine would be Streets of Rage3 and Shinobi 3: return of the master ninja.

CastleVania Bloodlines is easily the best sidescrolling Genesis action game.

my favorite arcade game has to be shinobi, i liked game mechanics to release prisoners to complete a stage, SD was a downgrade on shinobi (it had a magnificent shooting bonus stage) but genesis got that with dog attack feature included.
I played also shinobi 3 yes great game but i remember SD better for classic shinobi gameplay style
Sega Genesis has a GREAT library of side-scrolling action games. That may be my favorite genre on the Genesis. Here's some of my favorites:
I still haven't played Castlevania: Bloodlines or Contra: Hard Corps, but would love to and always keep my eye out for them when I'm on the hunt.

Just about all the 2d Castlevania games are very difficult, except maybe Symphony of the Night.Comix Zone is pretty good.
