Graphics continue to get better each year, and since so much progress has been made during the Xbox and GC years, it was hard to really appreciate the graphical leap the 360 and PS3 offered their first year. So, instead of the next systems trying to impress me on a graphical scale, what I want to see happen is advances in performance. I want 60 FPS as a standard. I want no load times. I want games to perform without glitches. I want more stability and reliablity. And I actually want less features in my next console. I'm not looking for a multimedia console that's always connected online, with a bunch of services I don't pay for because I won't use. I'm looking for a straight up gaming machine.

I want Wii HD. No joke. I currently only own a Wii, and it's a great console that's near perfect for me game wise. However, I got an HDTV last Christmas, and even with a component cable, the graphics still look a little too rough. So, I'd like Wii HD to have at least 360 level graphics, an HDMI output, Dobly Digital 5.1 sound, full backward compatibility with all Wii and GCN games (and upscale them to HD resolutions), have more internal memory for storing VC/Wiiware games, and have a wireless Nunchuck. :)

Crisp, real-time reflections on surfaces, reflections varying based on material. Realistic fluid system. Better destructible environments, including the landscape. Better damage modeling, and damage modeling on previously things, like on character equipment and weapons. Sound system interwoven with the physics system. Realistic behavior and reaction animations, like Euphoria. I can't really think of anything else.

Agreed. More functionalitiy from my console. I want it to replace the average PC.

Plus (this won't happen) I want M$ to stop jerking us around and charging/over chargingfor a service that the competition gives away for free. All this crap that cluttersthe dashborad (FB, twitter, etc..)thats meant for casuals/non gamers is garbage and I'm being forced to pay for it, they in no wayimprove theXbox or gamingexperience. If we were given dedicated servers across all games or something worth while I could understand being charged, but forcing me to pay to play is BS and greedy. I already pay for internet and at least in MMO's your paying for the servers/maintnance. Were really paying for nothing, Live's serviceis nothing.

The Wii shouldn't have 360 level graphics.

It should be STRONGER than the 360!

Most of what you're talking about is based on software makers, not hardware. 60 fps and 1080p are within the reach of current gen consoles (some games run at those rates and those resolutions) but they tend not to happen because there is other stuff that either developers value more or they figure players will value more (Obsidian's games are horrendously buggy because they would rather throw stuff in until the last moment than playtest).

Personally, I'm really happy with the design of current gen consoles because online connectivity and hard drives have massively benefitted gaming.

Magazines with demo disks (OPM and OXM in the States) cost at least 50 bucks a year to subscribe to back when they still existed. Nowadays demos can be had for free (those who pay for XBL Gold or PSN Plus just get a week's early access, which is meaningless unless you are an extremely obsessive sort like I am). IMHO the coolest thing about online connectivity and hard drives is that they have allowed for india games (and user created content) to hit consoles in a big way for the first time.

Agreed. It's been long enough for everyone to learn how to properly do that. There's no excuse for it to not be standard already.

Perhaps, but it'd still be nice for there to be some focus on achieving top-notch performance for a change.

Sticking to, and going back to making games fun again. This generation with the exception of motion controls, kinect, and 3D, has been really good to me. I have been blown away by many, many games. I'd like that trend to continue with more powerful hardware, perhaps, stepping into photo-realistic graphics. 60 FPS, and true 1080p. Do away with DVDs completely so not one single version has to suffer because the lack of memory capacity. More reliable hardware.

No more FPS

More RPG

The ability to carry over DLC and games you bought on the last gen systems.

A catalog of ALL the old NES/Sega and even ATARI games..not just released each week but the whole thing and for a reasonable price.

And STEAM installed on the next gen systems.

That's an odd thing to say considering the utter RPG overload in 2011:

  • Dragon Age II
  • The Witcher 2
  • Guild Wars 2
  • Star Wars: The Old Republic
  • The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
  • Diablo III
  • Dungeon Siege III
  • Two Worlds II
  • Mass Effect 3
  • Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning
  • The Lord of the Rings: War in the North
  • Dead State
  • Darkspore
  • Torchlight II
  • Neverwinter
  • Rift

True. If you close your eyes and stick you hand in a bin you're likely to come up with a first person shooter, but if one is honestly interested in rpgs, racing games, fighting games, sidescrollers or what have you, there are plenty of options out there.

most of those are sequels and mmo's. I want original, compelling, story driven, single player experiences. I'm not saying many of those wont be good games, I just remember the golden age of RPGs as an explosion of games like Chrono Trigger, Earthbound, Secret of Mana, the 7th Saga, etc. When developers werent afraid to try new things.

Tactics Ogre is excellent and judging by their predecessors, Valkyria Chronicles 3 and Demon's Souls 2 will probably be excellent.

I don't understand the logic behind this thought. Games are made by developers not by systems. At the end of the day game developers compete with other game developers. Exclusivity does not make games better.

So what? Only fanboys care about exclusives. Making system-selling exclusives shouldn't be the goal of a game developer if that same game developer doesn't happen to be a console manufacturer as well. Stop being a fanboy.

I would like the power of the PS3, with the incredible content you would find on a 360 or Wii. I want the devlopers to use dedicated servers, rather than the servers the game companies use, so the PS4, PC, Xbox 720, and Wii HD (or whatever the consoles are called) can have cross-platform multiplayer. I want backwards compatibility, within reason. I would like free online service (this means YOU, Microsoft) and a large harddrive, with games that install neccessary content onto the drive (either permanently or upon startup, deleting when you are done playing) so you stream from the system, not the disk, for faster performance. I have high hopes :D

Well the games you listed span 2 seperate years with a year between them. Given the same time frame we've seen Mount and Blade Warband, Risen, Divinity 2 (which is a sequel that plays nothing like the previous game)Alpha Protocol, Dragon Age: Origins. May see Dead State, Kingdoms of Amalur, Age of Decadence. There's enough new stuff that comes out, the only thing is the most stable versions of these games usually come out on PC or are exclusive to PC.

I would like to see blu ray support become standard or at least make it so that games can be completly installed on the hard drive either by download or multiple DVD's. Online multiplayer should be free on all systems and anything extra could cost a fee. Dont really need a web browser on a console, it works on the PS3 but i'd rather use my computer or even a smart phone. Normal controllers shoudl remain the standard with the option to use motion controllers on most if not all games. I would like to be able to download demos for games even if the games are released in a different region (they can throw up a warning about language barriers and the possibility of never seeing this game released in NA).

On the hardware side, i'd like to see quad core CPU's (doesnt have to be extreme high end - to keep costs down) and graphics processors on par with GTX 580/Radeon 6970. This would allow games with tesselation support. Hard drive sizes, 500Gb minimum with 1Tb or more on a higher model. Of course the ability to swap out the hard drive with any off the shelf equivelant would be nice too (i'm looking at you Microsoft). This would allow the user to download the game and install it on the hard drive, which could be beneficial to consumers who cant find a copy in stores.

I would like to see Nintendo step up to the plate and deliver a console that DOES support HD graphics. It doesnt have to be top of the line, but i'd like to see games that dont look like they were made 10 yrs ago.

It will be a holographic picture instead of Television picture also a special 3D on and a portable one It can stream music off the Internet for free and you dont pay to play online and you can watch movies tv shows for free and in 3D If you get he special one. It can do many things like unlimited Megabytes usage and fast than any other game console and you can get digital images of space at night even if your inside it will replace computers to and Television it can play VCR Tapes And Cassete Tapes and Blu-Ray and normal DVDs and it can even replace House Phones not cell phones. Also it tells time and it can replace printers and the portable one will replace ipods and cameras and cell phones cause you can call people and text people off it and its touch screen and the main console has rechargeable controllors (sorry about the spelling) and it is smaller than a computer not the monitor but the bottom part and it comes with surround sound Thats what The PXKHGS OR FOR SHORT PXK The portable one will be called PPXCIt ( Portable Playstation IPOD XBOX Computer Touchscreen or for short PPXT (Portable Playstation Xbox Touchscreen System

I want more game testing and less bugs! Okay, again not platform related.

Just more processing power. Technology has increased by leaps and bounds since the PS3 and 360 came out, and they could give us much more powerful consoles without much of an increase in price. Loading times could be geatly reduced, graphics could be improved, and there would still be ample room left for tons of other processing to be going on simultaneously.
