I know my questions can come off as similar in some ways or the other but...

It was the PS2 for me.

When my father worked at Sony he was able to bring home a fat silver limited edition console. Of course it still works to this day....but

I remember lending the second controller to a mate & his dog ended up biting the rubber off of the left joystick. I was distraught...!

A lot great memories playing Kingdom Hearts 1 & 2, Final Fantasy X, Sly Raccoon, Ratchet and Clank, Jak and Daxter, Tak...the list goes on.

As you can tell I'm into my platformers. ;)

The original Xbox and Gamecube I had some pretty memorable times with as well. Still a huge fan of old school Halo and Fable.

As for the Gamecube...Simpsons: Hit & Run I spent hours on...as well as playing Ty The Tasmanian Tiger and an underrated classic Pitfall The Lost Expedition.

I was one of those kids who didn't have a memory card handy most of the time...so I'd have to leave the console on for weeks on end. :D

Unfortunately I didn't grow up in the NES, SNES, N64 era...so my first console was the PS1 with a copy of Monsters Inc, Hercules and Atlantis The Lost Empire.

Hmmm it's a tough question... the easy answer is my first console I personally owned, which was PS1 (we had a Sega Master System before that but it was a family console).

PS1 definitely had a major influence in defining what gaming was to me (although I was still a bit young to really appreciate it). But in terms of the consoles that I think really cemented my love of gaming, I'd have to go with the Xbox and Gamecube. Those consoles, and it's games, really transformed gaming into a hobby for me.

Going from the Atari to NES they brought back gaming from the brink of death.

Wow you played a lot of bad games growing up, my condolences. I had a NES and SNES growing up and then got a PS1 due to the lack of supply for N64s that year. I played Mario 64 at a friends birthday party that he rented and man, that was impressive back then. Still happy I got a Sony though, as there were tons of great games on PS1.

First was NES, although probably played more on an Amstrad and commodore.

PlayStation 2 is the one, before that I simply played in the arcades for casual gaming.

Had some older systems and a dated P.C. years before; seeing them as dusty hand-me-downs no one wanted. So I barely tried any of them till PS2 made me see gaming in a different perspective.

I didn't just play the PS2, went back to a lot of the older systems more. But the PS2 made me appreciate games the way I still do to this day.

The NES hands down. Things like having to blow in the cartridges to get them to work, or leaving the system on over night so you didn't lose your progress are things these young guns will never experience. We had to work for our fun! Today, if a game is a little buggy y'all are starting petitions and shit...

I started gaming in the Atari 2600 days but I would say that the NES and SNES largely defined the type of gamer that I became with games like Zelda, Mario, Castlevania, Ninja Gaiden, Mega Man, Final Fight, Contra, Final Fantasy, and Dragon Warrior.

The NES and the SNES. Far too many games to mention specifically, but those two consoles really made an impact for me.

Maniac Mansion, Legend of Zelda, Dr. Chaos, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles all were games that made large impressions early on.

Donkey Kong Country, Chrono Trigger, Earthbound, Sunset Riders, Secret of Evermore/Mana...the SNES did a lot to define gaming for me.

NES started it, but SNES really got me hooked on gaming.

@speeny: Gotta be the PlayStation followed by Amiga and the Xbox.

Those 3 started it for me, Got a ps 1 as a kid and that ignited the flame.

So far the psp. Also was wondering if you could post a general question for me... so the game secret of mana was remade for ps4. But was wondering how I would go about getting Square Enix to remake it for psp? Really wanting to play it again for nostalgia sake.

@fanofffiv: it’s highly unlikely they’ll port it to the PSP. There’s methods you could use to play it on the PSP but you’d have to go about looking into that yourself.

Atari 2600 and the Sega Master System for me.

The 2600 had a lot of fantastic games that drew me in from Pitfall and Jungle Hunt to space Invaders and Defender, I still play it to this day.

The master system really showed me what games could be, from arcade ports like Outrun and Afterburner to just epic games like Phantasy Star I got addicted to gaming at that point and have been so ever since.

Gameboy Advanced/Gameboy Color if we're talking handheld. Console, would have to be the Xbox with JSRF.

Mine was definitely my Nintendo 64. Second console I ever owned, and little me put hundreds of hours into it.

Genesis. It has my favorite games, and I've played the most on it.

My father worked at metal shop, and would sometimes bring home used drill bits. It's not quite the same, is it?

PS1 defined console gaming for me.

I started with the Gameboy Color and PS1 but I'd say it was the PS2 that really defined gaming for me. I can remember playing Prince of Persia: Sands of Time and being blown away by the combat and platforming, especially the wallrunning.

It wasn't my first console, but the Dreamcast was when gaming became my primary form of entertainment.

Sega Master System and Sega Genesis

Before that, I had an Atari 400, Intellivision 2 and ColecoVision. But it was the SMS and Genesis that made got me serious into gaming. The Genesis I bought with my hard earned money while working at my uncle's restaurant at 13.

I also loved the SNES.
