What are YOUR top 5 rpg games of all time?

Here's mine

1. Crusader Kings II (with all the DLCs) - IMO the greatest RPG of all time, the level of character depth in this game is unbeatable, you can basically build/take a character from scratch and turn him/her into anything you want, thus creating your own story, the choices are practically endless.

2. Fallout 2 - IMO the best in the franchise, Fallout 2 did everything better than what FO 1 did.

3. Baldur's Gate 2 - The quintessential RPG of the early 2000s.

4. Planescape: Torment - IMO the storytelling in this game is unmatched even in today standards

5. Darklands - Darklands is a great adventure and is certainly one of the best multicharacter RPGs in the 90's, for a game from 1992, its well-drawn graphics, multiple quests, good character generation, and flexibility in play, the game's detail is phenomenal.

Don't know if I could personally tolerate base Dogma anymore honestly.

@RSM-HQ: Oh Dark Arisen for sure. But original dogma is good if thats all you have for some reason.

Yeah it would be a weird world in which one can only access the original release lol.

Love the Everfall and Ur-Dragon but outside of that the base game hinders its own strengths I find. From poorly spying on a poor plot twist to baby-sitting a brat. .

Meanwhile BitterBlack Isle is just fantastic. If we ever get a real Dogma 2 I hope they structure it like a huge and expansive version of that expansion.

Capcom is supposedly reviving two dormant IPs during the Jump Festa, here is hoping for Dragon's Dogma 2!

Bait for lil ol'me? I'm flattered but never played the original D:OS

1. The Witcher 3 - Not only is it a replayable 100hr+ journey, it's one that nails everything from side quests to music to gameplay and story. Definitely one of the best games ever created.

2. Bloodborne - The best Souls game in my opinion. The fast viseral combat, the setting, level design and bosses were all outstanding.

3. Mass Effect 2 - A huge step up from the first game, combat was vastly improved. The narrative was very interesting and the characters were very well written.

4. Persona 5 - As far as JRPG's go, this is pretty stellar. They managed to make an engaging turn based battle system. Humorous, relatable characters and an interesting world with a wholesome story.

5. Castlevania Symphony of the Night - Strikes the right balance with difficulty for an action RPG. Constantly rewards you for exploring the castle and don't forget the music!

Most of my options are SNES/Genesis or early 3D era for a reason. Today games focus so heavily on graphics, eye candy, and marketing that good stories come in last in importance. On these earlier consoles especially when you were restricted to 2D sprites, a good story and good gameplay was all you had.

You should really check out Divinity Original Sin II

If that's the combo you look out for.

I have plated Original Sin II. The gameplay was very interesting to say the least. A traditional turn-based "tactics" style combat system with some modern twists like using rain to create puddles, and then electrifying them to stun-lock opponents. The story line however, was just weird.

Disgaea 1, 2, 4, 5 and Makai Kingdom :D
