We've all been there, browsing the internet for free games, demos, shareware, etc. that could hopefully keep us entertained for the foreseeable future. My question to you is, out of all the free games you've found over the years, which ones stick out to you as having the most replay value, or just some of the best free stuff in general?

It may be an oldie, but my pick would have to be the shareware episode of DOOM. Even now I still find myself going back every so often. Another would be De Blob, before it was sold to EA.

What about you guys?

Probably random game apps on my phone. Not a huge fan of mobile gaming but I did spend a lot of time playing Angry Birds and other random, free games.

I would say one of the best free game experiences I've had was the Odium/Gorky 17 demo on a PC Gamer demo disk almost 20 years ago. It was a turn based game with a lot of bells and whistles, such as first rate music, combat, dialogue and suspense.

I own the game now but havent made it much farther than the first level.

Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen, and Dark Souls 1 are some of my favorite memories.

Also in my more recent years, I've been heavily modding Star Wars: Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy, and it's awesome.

Also in terms of Single-Player content in a fighting game, you have to go with Final Fantasy: Dissidia Duodecim 012, or any of the Smash Bros games, as even without friends, the games are still phenomenally fun.

@tiggytog: I think you missed the "free" part. Good list though.

Free games as in digital? I've never downloaded any free games. I prefer my games to be on disc. I just wait until they drop below a certain price point. I know Sony has had promotions for free games but I've never download them. My cousin says they have free games for people with PSN+ but they take them away if your PSN+ expires. Whats the point? If I like a game I wan't to own it.

Black Mesa (back when it was free)

Stalker: The Lost Alpha

Path of Exile? not sure it counts because I think you need to be online to play it, but does work as a SP game

not a lot of free Singleplayer games out there that are worth a damn

Single player? Mobile games. It may include Angry birds, Shark tale and temple run are the best one. I mostly play multiplayer and online games on my console and PC.

There is no such thing as a free game, they'll always want to milk your money with microtransactions. That said, Dynasty Warriors Unleashed is pretty decent for a free mobile game.
