Western or Japanese games. If you could only play from one category, which would you choose??

Okay. Imagine that for the rest of your life, you could only play either Japanese games, or western games.

And could not touch games from the other group.

So, which would you choose?

Would you spend the rest of your life with Japanese games (old and new).

Or would you go with what western games have to offer?

***************

Personally I'd go with western stuff, since I could not live without Forza, GTA and Elder Scrolls. I would miss Zelda, Mario and MGS games, but cannot be helped..

Japanese, easy. Way more talented, for the most part. Not so obsessed with expensive presentation and pretentious film envy.

Japanese games for me. Western devs just can't seem to wrap their heads around fighting games, and that's my favorite genre. Would miss my gen 6 extreme sports collection though.

Western. I’m pretty much in this predicament as I don’t really care for Japanese gaming as of late.

While I love Halo, Gears of War, and Forza I would have to go with the Japanese as there is too much that I wouldn’t want to give up mainly from Nintendo, Capcom, Square-Enix, Platinum, Namco, and Arc Systems.

One knows a single small country is making a lot of great games when a thread decides to compare said country to an entire region of the world.

Very hard question honestly. To be honest I would probably stick with Western games too, because its wider range (at least I think so) and in majority I play western more than Japanesse ... I wouldnt be able to give up my https://casino.guru/top-online-casinos and Mortal Combat haha!

Western games.

American and European games are always similar to each other. I wish there was more difference between them.

@henrythefifth: capitalism has spoiled a higher percentage of citizens morally than they have in japan.

As much as I love this country I'll take Japan's games

Japanese games easily. Without my Tales, Persona, Chrono, Final Fantasy etc I probably wouldn't even game as hard as I do.

Japanese game 100%. I mostly play Japanese game while I play very few western games (mostly Sony's first party, Tomb Raider and AC).

On the other hand from Japan I got Tales, Yakuza, Kingdom Hearts, Ni no Kuni, Senran Kagura, Sengoku Basara, and so many Fightning games.

As much as I love Dark Souls and Valkyria Chronicles, I like stealth games, tactical shooters, physics puzzles and RTS more, so there's your answer.

I play a lot more Japanease game than anything else.

A lot of creativity. Western is too much about realism.

I think it's really rough to choose.

I might actually surprise everyone by saying Western games, simply because there is a lot of great development talent in the US and Europe. But I would probably play much fewer games without Japan's contributions. The world would not be the same without Pokémon.

i love racing games, sandboxes, open world romps and shooters.

And in those genres Japanese games really lack. Only decent sandbox from east is Sleeping Dogs. (Yakuzas are rather dull)

I understand the limited genres in Japan, tho. Japanese devs make games for Japanese tastes, so they dont usually pay any attention what we of the west would like...

apart from those lacklustre Metroid efforts, are there any Japanese FPS games??? Oh, wait! Metroid shooters were done by Retro Studios, right, in USA?

Oh, and given the popularity of Gran Turismo, Sega Rally and Ridge Racer, how come Japanese devs arent big on racers/rally games these days?

@henrythefifth:

Ridge racer quite declined in popularity and some title never been published in Japan according to Wikipedia.

Same with Sega Rally.

Gran Torismo was a cool tech graphic show for the PS3 but since ... ?

FPS isn't a genre Japan is known for. They aren't as much into guns and shooting stuff in the face as the USA.

Metroid Prime, only the first one was done by Retro ... after that Microsoft bought them and made them do shitty games for their piece of garbage called Kinect

And many video game maker did try very hard to appeal to the USA and doing so did publish some Meh games for sure. RE4 was a way for Capcom to touch into the Call Of Duty dude-bro gamer ... Final Fantasy online and Final Fantasy XV with its open-world ... yeah not that great.

It would be interesting to know the biggest sellers in Japan these days. For PS4 and Switch...
