Poll Troy Baker or Nolan North? (20 votes)

Nolan North 60%
Troy Baker 40%

I know it doesn't serve anything to pit these two often used video game actors against each other. But I will anyway.

I'm replaying Uncharted 4. Troy Baker (Sam Drake) is a better actor than Nolan North (Nathan Drake). It's so hard for many voice actors to just sound like themselves. I had to check out an interview with him. Sure enough, he speaks naturally in person.

He keeps his tone continually low while acting. Not deep, just low. Or something. I'm assuming they do it because the voice acting booth and microphone makes them feel closed it.

Baker is going to win because Last of Us 2 is still riding its release hype. That said, I feel Nolan North is pretty damn versatile. He gets my vote. If you check out his IMDB page, you'll discover all sorts of characters he's been that you would have never guessed.

I think this thread is going to get very few replies anyway, since it's not about next gen consoles.

Nolan North is a very personable guy, and I like that about him. He really is great with the fans. But as far as pure talent, I think Troy Baker wins. They both are prolific voice actors, but Troy I think is more talented.

NN. TB is sooo overrated and over-used like Laura Bailey. I bet neither of those two ever turned down a video game role and are probably in 90% of all games.

Nolan North has a wider spectrum of performances I think.

I think Troy Baker does deliver some stellar performances, but his spectrum of voices is way less broad as what Nolan North has delivered over the years.

No, holding his voice back is a better way to describe Nolan North's acting. Like I said, because he feels closed in by the booth and microphone.

@ezekiel43: that's an interesting point - i didn't think about how recording a booth would affect your ability to speak naturally. I used to do a lot of stage acting and found it was a very natural thing for me, but this might not be true if you stuck me in a booth

Both are very good but I would give the edge to Troy Baker.

I do love Nolan North as Drake but Troy Baker played a lot more iconic characters so he gets my vote.

Give us a list of what each voice acter has done, or at least their most iconic characters so we can have a better idea of their range and abilities.

Can't you do that yourself? I'm just basing my opinion on Uncharted. This thread's scroll bar would be tiny if I included both their lists of jobs.

Yes they do. My son goes with me to comic cons to get his games and dvd/blu-rays autographed by the voice actors. Most of them are pretty good people that actually seem to enjoy meeting their fans.

Troy Baker does more interesting characters and has demonstrated more range - so siding with him.

Might as well ask who is better between Kirby Morrow (RIP) and Kelly Sheridan.

Troy Baker.

In the world of voice acting, to me, breadth of talent > excellent singular performances.

I'll prefer the voice actor that is in all sorts of projects with different voices than the person with the one recognizable voice.

Nolan North is good, but Troy Baker gets my vote. Mostly because of his versatility. I was very surprised when I looked at the credits and found out he played The Joker in Batman: Arkham Origins.

I couldn't really imagine that was the same person who played the gruff Joel in Last of Us.

I would say the Troy is a better voice actor, but I slightly (very slightly) prefer Nolan since I've played more games with him in it and since alot of my favorite characters have been voiced by Nolan.
