To anyone who plays on PC, do you leave Motion Blur: on or off?

Me, always turn off.

Motion Blur only works best for 30fps and since PC is always at least 60fps or higher, it isn't needed on PC. I tried it at both 60fps and 30fps and it looks great for 30fps but unecessary for 60fps. Motion blur is for consoles since they run at 30fps and it masks the awful visuals a bit which it helps. But at 60fps and above, it's just painful.

I know gamers have different taste and so with that, do you use Motion Blur?

I always turn it off on my games. As said above, there is already natural blur to begin with.

Off. I don't like the added blurriness when turning the camera

I turn it off. It's not like I have super fast response time monitor that has little to no blur at 144hz+.

depth of field is more for artistic photography right now. So, flick it on for neato screenshots. Playing with it is absurd, though. Maybe at some point when technology reaches the threshold of actually tracking eye movement, since that's what it's supposed to simulate.

And yes, blur is all about lower frame rates. Used to be built into most TVs, because of the MPAA standards and such being at such a low fps, i imagine. Don't know if they still do.

@davillain-:

Since when was motion blur only a console thing? Real life actually has a motion blur! Isn't the whole point of these new, high tech graphics about looking as realistic as possible?

Depends on the extent of it. Something like Doom 3: BFG or Halflife 2 is fine.

It was a console thing since the arrival of PlayStation back in the late 90's. It's for those gamers who think that 60fps looks like a soap opera and want that 24fps cinematic feel, it's used mainly to mask framerate drops. Developers started using it as a neat pixel shader effect, and then, they figured out that it was a handy tool on consoles for making low FPS/stuttering less apparent, now it seems to be a common thing.

Disabling motion blur and depth of field is the first thing you should do when setting up a PC game.

Always off. It makes the game look worse and makes me a bit queasy. This also applies to effects like film grain. No thanks

I love motion blur so much, I've started turning my fps down to 30 on all of my games that have it just to be able to use it and make it look right.

Part of it, and this is especially true for dark souls, is that martial arts classes taught my eyes to look for blur during people's attacks. So I literally don't know how to "fight" in real life without paying attention to blur.

So I need it in my games and yes, motion bur looks like shit on 60fps but that's because 60fps looks like shit. ;)

Off. Always off. Motion blur, depth of field, chromatic aberration, film grain, TAA. Any and all of the gimmicky post processing nonsense is the first thing to be turned off.

Always turn it off. From what I can tell motion blur is good for 30fps so it doesn’t feel jaggy but once you hit 60 fps it’s smooth and motion blur only.....well it blurs the action which sucks.

Off! It's really only useful for smoothing over bad framerates

On. Motion blur, to me, is not about camera movement. I never liked this effect, and if that still applies in modern games, I don't notice it now like I did in the 7th gen era.

The motion blur I like is per object motion blur, mainly on characters' individual limbs. Sample rates have improved to the point where this looks good to me in both cutscenes and gameplay.

I also like film grain, (modest) bloom, vignette (sometimes), and depth of field. I do not like Chromatic Abberation at all, and I only like TAA if the game's resolution is high enough to preserve some sharpness. It is the only AA method that removes shimmering completely, but it does not look very good at 1080p. 1620p at minimum is required if I use it.

I used to leave it on for racing games, because motion blur makes sense when going 200 m/ph

But even that I turn off these days.

I do find it funny you didn't notice I made this thread a year ago lol.

I know GS doesn't like Necro threads, but at this point, does it really matter? But Necro aside, my original statement still stands to this day.

@davillain-: Ugh. It's cause I'm always on mobile these days. Hard to see things like that, and I only have a fraction of my mod tools.
