The Tales Series

Currently playing Tales of Hearts R and it's pretty cool. I really like the combat but the game is just soo linear. I know the Tales Series has a large following and I'm looking to get into it and buy more of the games but are they all just as linear? Thinking about getting Tales of Berseria and Tales of Zestiria on PS4. Your thoughts?

All of them are linear. Zesteria has a bit bigger world than the others, but it is also linear. If you plan to play both Zesteria and Berseria, I reccomend for you to play Zesteria first. Berseria is a prequel but you'll understand things a lot better if you'll play Zesteria before, as Berseria expand a lot of the world of Zesteria with some key characters that are in both games.

Play Graces and Xillia as well.

@Random_Matt: Agree, Xiliia is my favourite game of all time, and Graces is also great.

@Random_Matt: What systems are Graces and Xillia on? I only have PS3, PS4, and PS Vita.

@valgaav_219: Don't worry. Graces and Xillia are on PS3. Graces on PS3 called "Tales of Graces F" (it was originally a Wii game, only in Japan, but then got a port to PS3 with pretty big new chapter of about 15-20 hours, that's why the "F" is for).

I was fortunate that i got Xillia and Zesteria for a combined £11 or something in a sale.

@Random_Matt: That's a really good deal. Zestiria was on sale for PS4 during Golden Week but they still wanted like $20-25

I really want to get Berseria. I bought Symphonia HD on a whim a couple years ago but never touched it and sold it. Maybe some day. Berseria looks the most interesting imo.

It does but I played the demo and I really didn't like it. Maybe I should be more open and give it more of a chance than a demo I guess lol. I think I'll get a few older cheaper Tales games then get Berseria when it costs less in case I don't like it lol

A good one is an older one called "Tales of Eternia", you can get it for the PSP. It's known as Tales of Destiny II on PS1.

I would recommend Tales of Symphonia (PS3, PC, GC) and Tales of the Abyss (PS2, 3DS). Two of my favorites.

And yes, they are all pretty similar imo.

I am a huge fan of this series. I have played pretty much all of them. As for a recent one, I recommend Berseria.

It's really good

Not to sound rude... But I personally hold somewhat of a grudge against this series, Although not as much as Dark Souls but it all stems from Namco not using any of their other IPs as of recently besides this one and Tekken. I've never been too huge on JRPGs but I know a friend of mine wants to play Berseria and the character Velvet looks kind of rad... I can't say I want Llyoid Irving for Smash Bros at all though, He just looks boring safe to say IMO.
