Good console. Unfortunately, most of my memories of this console are painful ones.

• Cleaning discs and the DVD lense for literally half an hour before it booted up the game.
• Unplayable third person shooters.
• FPSs that ran at a terrible framerate causing motion sickness with every single one.
• Awful online infrastructure. Seperate Online logins for every game!
• Sitting there waiting to connect to that stupid DSN server for hours just so I could play online.
• Rampant online cheating thanks to Gameshark and Action Replay.
• And lastly, and this is something minor, pretty terrible graphics for every game not named MGS especially when compared to the Gamecube and XBox versions.

It's amazing it lastest that long. Makes you wonder if another console will ever be that successful.

Even though i switched consoles during the era, had a lot of memories on the PS2.

I agree that shooters weren't the PS2's strength and I steered clear of online that gen, but if you think the PS2's graphics were terrible you need to lower the dosage. The PS2's visuals were fine by the standards of the day. None of its games hit the technical highs of the Xbox's Ninja Gaiden (or Riddick, which I was just as impressed by) or the GC's RE4, but games like God of War 2, Ico, Final Fantasy 12, Gran Turismo 4, Devil May Cry 3, Silent Hill 3 and Romance of the Three Kingdoms 11 did a beautiful job of living within the limitations of the system.

Granted, it helped that most of the industry's talent focused on making games for the PS2 and doing lazy ports for the other guys (that became less true over time in large part because MS wisely encouraged PC talent to support the Xbox).

Timesplitters 2 on PS2 was near enough perfection for mp fps action in my opinion.

I'm pretty sure they stopped selling it in my country a long time ago. I haven't seen PS2's being sold at any major retailers in years, highstreet or online

Amazing.

I stopped using one YEARS ago but I got memories of it. I loved all the Japanese games I rented out on it, games which I would never give the time of day these days but kept me happy when things were slower and the days felt longer.

I have trained most of my life for this moment....must...not shed tears T_T

I just cleaned and tucked my PS2 away in its box for safe keeping. *removes hat* R.I.P. dear friend
