I say this because it has the best looking games. Resident evil 4 on gamecube, the metroid prime games, wind waker and twilight princess blew everything on the xbox out of the water IMO. Super Mario Sunshine also had AMAZING water for its time lolz

It had the best looking game, but probably wasn't the most powerful. Xbox actually had tech that wasn't released yet in it. It was basically a Direct x 7 console before DX7 came out (might've been 6 or 8, I don't remember, it was a long time ago)

Beyond RE4 though, the other top games looked way better on XBox.

splinter cell chaos theory was much more beautiful on the xbox than the other 2. Also the xbox had doom 3 witch had gorgeous graphics. The gamecube and ps2, as much as I love them, couldn't have such visuals.

well gc had the most powerful game but the xbox was slightly more powerful the problem is ps2 was the main platform to develope for so when ever third party released games they used ps2 as the basis for the ports with the exception of resident evil which used the gamecube ,

timesplitters 3 looked equal in all 3 versions

gta looked slightly better on xbox then on ps2 due to later release dates

and the majority of xbox games were same as ps2 /cube in power

PS2 seemed to be the strongest since there still making games for them and not for Xbox and Gamecube. Plus the PS2 had the best graphics,in my opinion.

Just cause they're making games for it, has nothing to do with the system's actual spec's! That just means they don't want to let go of it just yet because of the fan base that still clings onto it, It was a long term investment they put into! But if I had to go based by power/graphics/ect, I'd have to throw it at the Xbox original for the last gen. systems, just because of what it was able to achieve and what they had packed away into the big bugger.

Does it really matter as to how famous a console was back in the day? I think we're talking about what had the better juice behind it on the inside, aren't we?

The Xbox had the most capable hardware out of all three consoles last generation. Whilst the GPU of the Gamecube was slightly better than that of the Xbox, the architecture of the Gamecube was made in such a way that it was underutilized when playing games. These same problems are seen in the Wii since it is built off the Gamecube board base.

the xbox was. it can do 720p. the gamecube had the power to do HD but they never tried to go higher than 480p. the ps2 may do 1080i HD but its the 2nd to last in power last gen.

xbox has a 233MHz GPU

the GCN a 162MHz

ps2 147mhz

DC 100

the xbox may be more powerful but the type of proccessor made the gcn have slightly better graphics on some games

Yep. But in all honesty they were not THAT different. Shadow of the Collossus and MGS3 are great looking games on PS2. RE4 and Twilight princess are great looking games on the GC. I don't know much on Xbox but it has some nice looking FPS games.

This isn't about "unique graphics". This is about power, plain and simple. The Wind Waker has unique graphics, but does that make the GameCube more powerful than today's Playstation 3? Because that's basically equivalent to what you're saying.

Nor is this a matter of opinion. This is a matter of fact. You can't have an opinion about which of three consoles is the most powerful. That's like having an opinion about whether or not a cat is bigger than a mouse.

In terms of just specifications the xbox was the most powerful. I don't feel that most games fully utilized it's capabilities however. Just like others were saying the ps2 was the most commonly coded for system so usually the base of ps2 games were ported to the xbox. Because of the game content quality and the fan-base the ps2 had a lot more effort behind it so very few xbox games were designed to a degree that really showed off the console's abilities. I have Resident Evil 4 on both GameCube and Ps2 and they look almost identical. I prefer the gamecube version simply because I like the controller feel a little more though. I think that the specifications didn't matter much though because the next-gen consoles weren't too far off before the games really started pushing the consoles. I remember getting final fantasy 10 when I first got my ps2 and the cut scenes just blew me away. Even though they were pre-rendered what else had those kind of graphics in those days? Too bad the in game graphics weren't really anything revolutionary.

PS2 was most definitely the weakest console in terms of hardware and graphics. Regardless of that, it was still the most popular. Just like the Wii is this generation. IF you wanna throw the Dreamcast in there then I guess the DC was the weakest.

RE4 for the Gamecube was indeed much better looking than it's PS2 counterpart. If you check the comparison videos and screens you'll see it's quite a large difference.

Anyone older than 16 should know that the Xbox was the most powerfull by far last gen , Riddick , Ninja Gaiden , Rallysport Challenge 2 , Halo 2 , Splintercell CT , Burnout Revenge , Doom 3 , Far Cry , Forza , DOA and the list goes on .

Remember Black , touted as the the best looking game on the PS2 last gen. when it came out , Xbox version destroyed it .

Gamecube also had some good looking ones like resi 4 but the Xbox was King then , PS3 and 360 are much closer now .

to be honest, even the DC had its advantages over the PS2, such as more video memory ,and better anti aliasing (PS2 are not as smooth, especially early ones)

what PS2 games could actually output in 1080i? i bet none. i'm sure 480p is the highest a game on that system could output to.

I have all three and the Xbox has the best graphics from what I have seen. It also benefits from having almost all games run in 480p and many in widescreen. Still the diffrence from the best on the Xbox to the PS2 is not as big as you would think it would be. Here is arguably the best graphics on all three consoles.

In terms of sheer hardware power, that was the Xbox 1 that had the most power, and it also had actual 720p and 1080i games in its lifespan. GameCube was limited to 480p, but made up for it with excellent texturing, and if you had a compatible model and component video cables, really good progressive scan. PS2 was by far the weakest system. It also had the most infuriatingly difficult SDK to to work with compared to the other two. PS2 though had about a two-year head start on the other systems, and had such an insanely huge install base to force devs into working around its limitations. The only two games on the PS2 to support 1080i were both on the same game engine, developed for over five years in-house at Polyphony. Even then, it doesn't support this in multiplayer - only in single-player play.

Metroid Prime is defiantly one of the best graphical showcases on the gamecube. It has a wide variety of environments and a great effort by Retro Studios. Its in the top 10 easy. Spliter Cell looks good on the Xbox to, I was debating between that Ninja Gaiden or Conker for the best there.

I definetly agree that Metroid: Prime has some of the best graphics on the Gamecube. There is so many different things that game showcases, too. The environments are phenomonal looking for a last-gen game. Phedrana Drifts (the artic area) looks sooo cool. Nonetheless, XBox was still the powerhouse of the last generation.

guess if a consoles games have alot of shine and a plastic look to them it's the most powerful console.
