I want a rpg to kill some time and I have tried the mass effect trilogy and have not enjoyed it. I have tried playing it like 3 times and have not enjoyed it. I have also tried other rpgs like skyrim and fallout 4 and have not enjoyed those either.

Maybe the action-rpg genre is not for you. What games do you enjoy?
To answer your question, are you starting with ME1? ME1 has not aged well imo, you might want to try ME2 or ME3 even. You might be a little lost, but they have pretty good introductions to what happened in previous games.
This is what, your third topic about Mass Effect? You can't force yourself to enjoy a game, nor is there really anything to "learn" about better enjoying a game other than to just keep playing it. If it's not for you, it's not for you. These games are about 30+ hour experiences, less if you just run through the story. I personally think the characters and the interactions with them stood out the most in the original trilogy. And I found the gameplay to be very enjoyable, aside from the first game anyway. If you're a few hours into one of the games and are not finding any interest in the characters or story, then it's probably just best to move on. Otherwise all you can do is keep playing and try to give it another chance.
That's a lot to expect of any given game. And you're going to have a hard time finding a game you're willing to spend that much time with if you don't enjoy RPGs, which it seems like you don't. Are you strictly looking for SP games? Because many people spend hundreds of hours playing just one game online. There are several options in that regard. Otherwise, good luck. I can't think of any games off the top of my head that I've spent 100+ hours on that weren't either an RPG or a game I invested a lot of time online in.
What really drew me into Mass Effect was the story, characters, and the sense of wonder, discovery, and exploration. The gameplay was fine but it definitely improved in the sequels.
@SoNin360: I'm thinking about trying fallout 4. I tried it last year and it was okay. So that's where I might start.
Yeah, if you can get into it, that's a good candidate for spending 100+ hours on. I haven't gotten to it yet, but I've spent probably close to 300 hours on both Fallout 3 and New Vegas.
@SoNin360: I just feel like I would be confused with all the crafting and shit since I haven't played a rpg or a fallout game. Starcraft 2 I might buy since it is 30 dollars with all the expansions and just the single player of the game and the expansion alone will probably take around 100 hours.
@nolanw485: I mean, yeah, there would probably be a learning curve. But that's not necessarily a bad thing if you're wanting a game to spend a lot of time with. In any case it's an investment. I was completely lost when I first played Fallout 3, but then it became my favorite game of all time. If you're familiar with Starcraft, then yeah, give that a try. I know almost nothing about it personally so idk what more to say on it.
@nolanw485: I would recommend you start over with a clean slate and abandon any preconceived conceptions floating around surrounding the highs and lows of each installment. I tend to focus on the little things that i love within the universe, whether it be the intricate ambiance of sounds while exploring an unknown location in solitude, or the subtle nuances between people and the relationships i find myself making against all the odds. Mass effect can offer all these little delicacies if you are quiet enough to listen.
