I have wanted this game for quite some time, but have had trouble deciding which version to get, the Genesis or SNES version. So my question to you is what version is better in terms of sound, graphics and any other variables that make one version better then the other. Thank you :)

The majority of the time the SNES port is better when comparing Genesis and SNES games. Usually when there's an exception and the Genesis version is actually better, it's because someone else handled the porting of the game other than the parent company.

In this case, I'm pretty sure Konami did everything, so I think you'd be safer going with the SNES version.

However I've never actually played either version, I played the arcade. YouTube it to be sure.

If I am remembering correctly, the snes controls better because of the button layout. Again, I could be wrong, as it's been a long time, but I believe the "shoot diagonal" commands are mapped to the l/r buttons which allows for more finesse movement.

SNES version is much, much better. It has more characters, controls better and you can aim in pretty much any direction. It's just... better. The Genesis version was completely different, but for once it's not a good thing.

I liked SNES version. I didn't play Genesis version yet. My roommate told me that he refused to rent Genesis version of Sunset Riders but he didn't explain why yet.

Normally I dont like the whole "which version is better" arguement, because it seems like both sides seem to have their ups and downs, and most variations in SNES/GEN games are either too minor or all together different, making a comparison hard to do. Sunset Riders is argueably one of my top 10 favorite games OF ALL TIME. Both versions are fun, but I have to agree with the crowd that the SNES version has a huge edge, and making a comparison between the games is hard to do, because of the fact that the two are so different. The GEN version does have a certain charm that is hard to describe, but just about every category is better on the SNES including the fact you have twice as many character selections, longer boss battles, better graphics, and overall better control. If you have both consoles go with the SNES version, but it never hurts to have both when the game is THAT good!
