SF has an "original era" and a "revival era". The original era was from 1987 to 1997 (or 1999, if you count updates), which spanned the release of SF1 to SF3. The revival era (2008-present) began with the release of SF4. You can choose to acknowledge or ignore the "revival era" SF games.

Think of SF like Looney Tunes. For Looney Tunes, the original era (1930-1969) was when LT (for Looney Tunes) cartoons were originally made. The revival era (1987-present) is when LT cartoons started being made again.

So anyway,

"Original Era" SF:

1. SF1

2. SF2 series

3. SFA series

4. SF3 series

"Revival Era" SF (as of 8/5/2016):

1. SF4 series

2. SF5

So, I'm curious: Do you acknowledge or ignore the "revival era" SF games, SF4 and SF5?

I acknowledge Street Fighter IV, love that game and it's iterations. Haven't played Street Fighter V yet because I don't have a PS4 and I don't game on PC. I have watched people playing it on Twitch and it looks great.

Despite being an ugly game I really like Street Fighter IV, so much so, I grabbed three different versions and sunk a lot of time online.

The much prettier Street Fighter V? Right now I have no interest in buying, Capcom are making some odd decisions with the franchise and I find it wise to speak by keeping my wallet in my pocket.

I don't ignore them but I often forget them. I play Street Fighter Alpha 3 and Street Fighter III a lot. I didn't really get into IV and haven't played V yet.

SF4 imo was an extremely ugly looking game. But at least it had a good deal of single player content unlike sf5. But I like SF5 overall. Better gameplay and beautiful graphics. Lacking in single player content but online is great. I get wrecked online all the time so I wish there was some single player content for me to blow off some steam.

I was lukewarm on Street Fighter IV due to some of the mechanics having too much reward for how little risk there was. I had fun with it, but I was ultimately shaking my head at a lot of stuff in that game.

Street Fighter V just exceeded all expectations. This game is pure genius. Not only are the mechanics a lot more fair and balanced, the changes they made to long standing characters is fantastic. Every character in this game is truly a blast to play as. It's currently my favourite game of this generation.

I love SF4 and SF5. It's one of the few series Capcom still has that's relevant.

@npham2005: Been playing IV On and Off for the last few years. Ultra, in it's current state, is one of my favorite fighter.

As far as V is concerned, I don't know. I've avoided it since launch. It's pricey and light on features. It does looks good but i honestly don't care all that much about that. With the latest patch, it's getting a bit tempting. I main Juri in IV, so...

There's a few good fighters in recent time with plenty of good content that are giving V a run for it's money : Mortal Kombat X and Killer Instinct (2013) really are helping shape the fighting game arena.

I love the originals (minus street fighter 1, horrible game) and I love SF4 and 5.

Also why are soany people calling SF4 ugly? I just played it yesterday and its still a good looking game with great art and animations.

@vfighter: Character models, they all look like monkeys. And have very bad contrast and shading. They've just got some edema thing going on, especially with the hands in every character model from IV.

But will state it did have good fluid animation in the IV series, even backgrounds looked nice. It's the character models that look bad though. And they really are ugly.

Was the first Street Fighter called by that in the beginning? I thought it was Fighting Street. I may be wrong though.

Spent a lot of time with Street Fighter IV and bought it on both PS3 and X360 to play with various friends. I even bought my first fight stick to play it on the 360.

While Street Fighter V looks great mechanically, I'm holding off until a revised edition (Super, Ultra) is released due to some questionable decisions by Capcom regarding the games content.

My favorites go something like -

street fighter 2 turbo

sf alpha 3

super sf4

The classic is the best by far, timeless.

I hated street fighter 4, I played it because thats what everyone was playing, but I hated lots of things in it.

Street fighter 5 is one of the greatest fighters ever made, I absolutely love it, I dont care about the slim single player stuff, the fighting is solid and incredibly balanced.
