I need some story based games to play which are similiar to the telltale games, heavy rain, bioshock games, firewatch etc. I dont want mainstream games because its pretty likely i already played them. I dont have a high end pc so no need for graphicly intense games :) And if you could it would really help if they had the "choose your own story element" (not required do)

Feel free to give me any suggestions you have

@Sam3231: Pretty mainstream played them but thanks anyways

Did you play the sequels like Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs? Metal Gear Solid 2 & 3?

I recently purchased Beyond: Two Souls which is from the makers of Heavy Rain so maybe that game? Can't say how it is though since I haven't played it yet.

I'd recommend more but they are also pretty mainstream, like Portal 2, Fallout 4, L.A. Noire?

Wolfenstein: The New Order I beat recently and as far as story goes, I found it pretty decent. The game itself is a plain as day shooting gallery though.

Maybe you can check out some indies like Dust: An Elysian Tail? Bastion? Furi? Valiant Hearts? Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons? Although, some of these may not have very deep stories, their premises are interesting.

That's all I got.

Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak is a real-time strategy game with a pretty great story. Might as well check out the original Homeworld while you're at it, one of the better story deliveries in gaming imo. Great music, narration, etc.

  1. Night in the Woods is pretty terrific. I ended up playing it twice just to see everything, which I almost never do. Very endearing game.
  2. Nier: Automata is pretty mainstream I guess, but it currently holds the crown in my opinion for storytelling this year.
  3. What Remains of Edith Finch is a real treat with some deftly-handled storytelling. Melancholy, hopeful, and whimsical all at once.
  4. VA-11 Hall-A: Cyberpunk Bartender Action is the game I'm currently working my way through. The writing is super sharp, and the characters are believable and interesting.
  5. Undertale ended up getting pretty popular, but it's a close second with Nier for top notch storytelling. There's a reason the fanbase is so obsessed over it; it has a seriously good story.

Look for Obsidian Entertainment games for the most part. The unedited writing is laborious and meaningful. It's packed with choices and character development, but you may find that it belongs to RPG, and not the mystery and puzzle solving adventure games. I recommend Pillars of Eternity and Fallout New Vegas.

For non-mainstream, story-focused games with little to no challenge, try SOMA, Oxenfree, What Remains of Edith Finch, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, Virginia, To the Moon, Everybody's Gone to the Rapture.

Of those, I would particularly recommend SOMA, What Remains of Edith Finch, and To the Moon.

@william9232: There's a game called LISA: The Painful on Steam that you need to check out if you love story based games.
