Without a doubt....................... it reads the games faster, less freezing, and slightly increases loading times 8)

So the rumors I've heard about the slimline "melting" aren't true? My current PS2 still works but I have this feeling that it's going to die sometime soon.

I had a hell of a time scratching up my cds on the ps2s tray design. I had it on its vert stand, and I guess loading it in how I did and taking it out messed the cds up. I'm glad for the new flip top, its just one less thing I have to worry about going wrong.

In regards to the slimline overheating... Mine was overheating really bad. After an hour it would shut off. I called sony and the guy said I'd have to send it in. I took a gamble and opened it up myself. This voids the warranty. It was easy though, just 6 screws hidden behind the squares on the bottom. Anyway, the fan was not plugged in all the way. As soon as I plugged it in, it began working. I think maybe this happens to a few during manufacturing...

No problems with overheating anymore.

I would prefer to have the slimline PS2.I say this because if you need to fix it you probably wouldn't have to spend as much as the normal PS2.I am getting a PS2 slimline in a few days.

Ok heres the deal with the new PS2 Slimline overheating problem as well as the harddrive problem. Both can be solved easily. If you keep your PS2 Slimline in an unopen area (such as right next to the t.v. inside an entertainment center, or a cabitnet, etc.) then you will need to purchase a usb powered fan if overheating is a factor in your gameplay. Simply plug in the fan and angle it so that it blows cool air into the PS2 through the vent and you should see a relative difference of about 20-30 degrees cooler. As far as the hard drive goes, when you purchase FFXI simply put your hard drive that came with it on eBay as you wont be needing it. Use the money you got from selling it to purchase a USB hard drive. It will work the same. Then you can not only back up your games using an HD loader but you can also play FFXI. If you are concernced about how this will look simply get a usb hard drive with a long cord so you can hide the HD behind something. Now for those of you who are waiting for the PS3 to get a new console rather then the slimline, dont. The PS3 is slated to launch in Spring of 2006. Considering Sony's track record you should probably be looking for it about December of 2006 as that is the next largest holiday season as far as sales go, and you should expect Sony to mass under produce for well into the next two months so that they can keep the demand up for the consoles as sell even more. Of course knowing Sony they will deny this and blame the shortage on good advertising as well as "technical difficulties". Also if you buy a custom case for your old PS2 such as a clear one, pop in a mod chip, and maybe even a hard drive you should be able to sell your PS2 for well enough to purchase your Slimline PS2 and a game. As far as the mod chip goes they now of solderless mod chips so even a monkey could install it. However doing this will void your warranty, however if its one of the old PS2's then your warranty has probably already expired so dont worry about it.

I make alot of DVDs with my Sony Vaio, DVD/R and DVD/RW does come in handy. I also like the fact that they kept the build-it networking along with its small size.

..Well the slimline looks nice to me, so if one doesn't have a PS2 yet I'd advise the slimline for sure..... but actually I have a question about Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal. Could some one help me with getting online. Because I can connect to the net and go through the DNAS testing, but when I try to login with my profile it says: Account Not Found. Could anyone please tell me what's the problem here? Thanks very much :D

The slimline is a waste of money. If you are careful with a bigger version it wont break. Its jut a sly way to con peoplepf their money. Try reading some game mags they say just the samething (apart from OPSM2). Who would stand on a PS2 any way or drop the bugger come on!

Yeah, just two extra things "built in" . That still doesn't mean that they should make another PS2 they could have waited and placed that in the PS3 anyway doesn't the normal PS2 have a built in progressive scan setting? Inform if I'm wrong

Im not sure if im right here but ive heard from many friends that the new slimline playstation2 cannot be left on for a long time. It overheats im told. I have a cousin who has the slimline and he turns it off every 1 hour of gameplay just incase this is right. Theres no fact or rule about that issue in the playstation manual. Please can someone give me a straight answer please?

If I'm playing PS2 and if there's a lightning storm and it gets fried(I have a wireless controller) I'll just get the slim one, then I can finally play Ratchet and Clank Online:D!

The v12 PStwo does indeed have some voltage regulation issues with the laser assembly and motor controllers, so - while not guaranteed - they are much higher known to have random "fried laser syndrome" than any of the other models of the PS2.

Thankfully, it seems that these issues have finally been resolved in the new v13 of the console.

But you'll forgive me if I decide to stick with my v9 model. 8)
