I only saw the 'reinvented' Lara Croft a few days before E3 an then the gameplay footage at the conferences and i'm liking this new iteration. I've never played a Tomb Raider game in my life but i am aware of Lara's image as the ultimate sex symbol of video games and it seems Square Enix is going out of their way to make her a more accessible and believable heroine but one thats still vulnerable and frightened. One of the reasons why I never played Tomb Raider was because of my opinion of the old Lara; that she was ridiculous and impossible to take seriously.I don't really like characters that i can't relate to or recognise as accomplishedand having earned their place. But i'm definitley going to follow this new version simply because she's looking like she's finally becoming a serious and genuine heroine born out of hardship rather than image itself.

What do the rest of you think?

Never played Tom Raider before in my life, but from what I've seen, I like the new one better. More realistic and believable...

She's definitely more realistic this time which I really like XD

I've played Legend and I thought it was a good game. I got Underworld and Anniversary but I haven't got the chance to play it yet.

She looks Japanese-ish, which personally worries me. That Japanese industry (this gen especially) has been very apparent at how it treats its women and the disgusting attitude they have towards the opposite sex, which can only lead to... another m fiasco of sorts.

Not that I've ever played a lara raider game. Didn't even know the Angelina Jolie movie was based off a game. I looked over the original games and they look like crap, which is probably why the movie is so good (it's the inverse relationship of movies-to-video games/video games-to-movies)

Still, I'll admit that my overwhelming hatred of Square Enix is clouding my judgement. Hope they fail and go bankrupt. That'll show them to screw over their consumers.

I prefer the old style. Something about the trailers for this new game and the new design just doesn't interest me like the original games. I can't really explain why though.

I like her new iteration. It's very modern and real. I like all of Lara's appearances in general; her personality is noteworthy for a videogame character. If only there was a compilation showing her true story so that I'm not so confused which games are canon or not.

She looks good. I liked the old Lara, but I like this one too. I'm hoping the game delivers.

Maybe Uncharted finally has some competition. :)

You guys are making me feel old saying you never played a Tomb Raider. They are classics. And realize the first Lara was in 1996, games back then weren't like games now. So just don't hate on the old ones, they really helped spawn a lot of games. Saying that I like the look but after just watching that E3 demo, it is hard to tell how it's going to play.

I think she looks good. The "old" Lara was much more of a cartoon or caricature, which was fine; so with a "re-imagining" of the series, a much less idealised and confident character is a good direction to go in.

At first i dislike it because i don't want to play as a 'fresh out of college' child.

But, after watching E3, i've see that its a type of origin story (as said by the devs themself), Lara will build that idealised and confident character that we all know. Its a very good idea, to progress from a inexperienced college head, to a strong, experienced character.

I like that idea a lot.. good call for the devs.

Hot. But... I'm no tough guy, but I have a high tolerance for pain. But the way she acted when she was IMPALED seemed a bit.. Casual, especially for someone who at that point in the game is yet to develop into the badass we all know from past games. I mean, she gave a groan, ripped it out & was off again. Sure, she stumbled a bit & all, but seriously.. That thing went right through her. After awhile she seems relatively fine (for someone that was impaled). I don't think that was necessary to get the whole 'got to survive, on the brink of death' sort of feel, but meh.

After seeing the new trailer, I like the new design a lot. She does look like a Final Fantasy XIII character though, but that's no necessarily a bad thing.

She does not look Japanese-ish at all. Even if she does look that way, it would be a nice mix anyways.

You know nothing about the japanese industry, if that is your thought on it. Hint: Metroid, and that's only one.

The western market is far more dramatic in those regards.

Oh she's still a sex symbol alright, The E3 gameplay during the MS conference showed us that. I mean... DAT MOAN! It was more like a porno. During those 5~ minutes did she even say anything else than "Ah, AH AHHHH! Ahh IIhh Ahh!!!" once every tenth second?

The actual game looked weird and I haven't been following this too much but I never disliked the "old Lara" to begin with so...

Better then the inverse of your complaint... What would really happen. Lara would be bed ridden for months complaining about every little thing you did wrong until you eventually stab her again just so that you feel her complaints are actually justified.

Seriosuly what do you want. a 20 minute reaction command styled cutscene where you go through her crying about it and everything? there's a point in a video or movie where realism has to take a back seat to entertainment.

Based on the material we've seen thus far, Lara strikes me as the unluckiest person in the world (everything that can hurt her, does hurt her). I guess the team wants to show off the damage system.

In all seriousness, the character looks fine and the gameplay/game design looks very interesting. This is the first Tomb Raider I'm optimistic about since TR3 (which was a big disappointment).

It looks like it could be GOTY potential, and thats saying a lot considering the competition coming out this year. Looks incredible, can't wait to play it.... and thats the first time I said that about a Tomb Raider game in 10 years or so. This game looks like its doing for Tomb Raider what RE4 did for Resident Evil.

It certainly looks interesting. I haven't played a Tomb Raider game in ages. This might be the first in quite some time. Unless there are recent Tomb Raider games that are good and I still need to try (Guardian of Light isn't what I am referring to).

She isn't just believeable or realistic...she's VUNERABLE. She's not the headstrong, tough girl that we've seen in earlier games, so I'm looking forward to making this my first deep Tomb Raider experience. And no, I have not played the others since the very first game!
