I just pulled mine out after about 5 years and it was still as good as ever. All those awesome arcade ports were great. I played Dragon Force last night for about 3 hours; it has aged beautifully. Whats your Saturn Collection? Whats your favorite Saturn game?

Virtua Fighter 2--Still my favorite fighter ever.

Virtua Cop 2

I got my Saturn on the Christmas of 96... I asked for it over the Playstation, not because I was a Sega fanboy (I wasn't) but I didn't have faith in Sony at the time. I expected the Playstation to go out like the Jaguar and 3D0... I also wanted the three games that came with the Saturn... then a few months later FF7 was announced for the Playstation... before the generation was over, I still bought over 30 Saturn games, and had a blast with the system, so it wasn't a total loss.

That's odd. Panzer_Zwei hasn't posted here yet. And I can't comment, since I haven't played that many Saturn games. The ones I have played are pretty good, though.

I have a similar story to the guy earlier. I asked for the Saturn for Christmas over the Playstation and N64. I remember my friends making fun of me, but I loved it. I figured everyone had a N64 and a few other people had a Playstation, but I was the only one at the time that had a Saturn. I still have it to this day and I have enjoyed collecting games for it. I still play several. My collection is

  • Daytona USA
  • Virtua Cop
  • Virtua Cop 2
  • Virtua Fighter 2
  • Astal
  • Nights
  • In the Hunt
  • Sega Rally Championship
  • Fighters Megamix
  • Fighting Vipers
  • Radiant Silvergun
  • Clockwork Knight
  • Clockwork Knight 2
  • NBA Jam Extreme
  • Loaded
  • Panzer Dragoon
  • Panzer Dragoon Zwei
  • College Slam
  • Cotton
  • Dragon Force
  • Three Dirty Dwarves
  • Guardian Heroes
  • Shining Force 3
  • Street Fighter Alpha 2
  • Waku Waku
  • Madden 98
  • NHL 97
  • World Series Basebal, 2, 98
  • Theme Park
  • Myst

Great battle system, atmospheric. Pretty bland and boring otherwise. Really.

same here, got a PAL saturn recently and I think its a great system with great games one question I have for knowledgeble people, for some reason, while playing games on my Saturn and N64 the graphics seem somewhat pixilated, I noticed it most on Panzer Dragoon Saga on Saturn and Goldeneye on N64, is it my HDTV or the actual game, no Playstation game seems to do that.... thanks

Still, wanna play it, even if I have been taught time and time again that all other gamers have horrible taste (FF12, Earthbound, any game with the word "Saga" in it).

Are the Saturn Langrissser games playable for a non-Japanese speaking gamer? I really was to try them out.

Yeah, you won't really have any problems. If anything all you will need help for if you don't know Japanese is to give the answer you want for the various questions presented in the games. But there are many deep FAQs and guides for every single Langrisser game that can help you with that.

I see. It's really good to know that people have taken the time and effort to do this.

I guess that means only 93 games were ever made for the system :P. Wait, I don't see Sonic Jam on there. THREE (I count Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles as one game) GREAT GAMES IN ONE CONVENIENT PACKAGE!

Video_Game_King

There are much more games, but not really worth the money they go for nowadays. (or at least I'm not willing to pay it) I remember I bought GunBird, DonPachi and Gekirindan in a bundle for like $50, now any of them go for around the $30 mark. Also, I never bought that many fighters, almost all games that use the 1MB cart aren't really worth it. I do like a lot Groove on Fight, but it's not a great Arcade perfect port, specially considering the game was released on the S-TV. It seems only Capcom knew how to use the RAM carts properly. SNK did very poorly with their ports. I still don't know why Samurai Spirits III used the 4MB while IV only the 1MB one. I also never bought a Stunner so I never bought any light-gun game. I only got one loaned to play Policenauts.

I do have Sonic to Sonic & Knuckles on the Mega Drive and I don't fancy compilations of games I already have. I have the Phantasy Star Collection for the Saturn and I've always regretted buying it. I don't even know why I bought it in the first place.

I also seem to have missed to put Dracula X and Sengoku Blade on the list.

Wait, why would you go for the Neo Geo ports when Neo Geo games were still being made at the time? I'm guessing the "closest as possible to arcade" feel would justify the huge ass price. And I'll ask a very, very, very stupid question we both know the answer to: can I use Phantasy Star Collection (or Japanese games in general) to learn Japanese :P?

I didn't own a Saturn until well after they stopped making them, however, I did get to play it regularly when it was in its hay-day because a good friend of mine had one. I loved it back then, but never bought one because they were so expensive, and the decline in its sales had already began. I got distracted by my N64 for many years, the my PS2 after that, and in 2004 I was browsing at a local game store when I saw they had a used saturn for sale for $30. It seemed like a great deal so I picked it up right away. I have just as of this past week started buying games for it again, but I currently own the following:

Daytona USA

Virtua Cop

VIrtua Fighter Remix

Virtua Fighter 2

Nights

Panzer Dragoon

Virtual On

I plan on buying many many more titles in the coming months.

Well it sure helps gets acquainted with the language. I started with just a dictionary (before I had internet access) and pretty much memorized the kanji for all elements, city, town, directions and such. to be able to recognize it in games.

Get a Katakana/Hiragana charts online and use one of the many Japanese translation sites to help you with the Kanji. However the main problem is that you will not be able to learn conjugation off just games or online translation sites.

I also seem to have missed to put Dracula X and Sengoku Blade on the list.

most saturn imports - mainly shooters go for at least $50 on ebay now. Some fighters too go for 60-70$. I'm still trying to get a hold of 'Crows: The Battle Action' ...goes easily for $120 for a title that's not anything ground breaking. Dracula X was hard to get a hold of but it was worth the $.

I guess that means only 93 games were ever made for the system :P. Wait, I don't see Sonic Jam on there. THREE (I count Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles as one game) GREAT GAMES IN ONE CONVENIENT PACKAGE!

The Saturn version has more areas, more enemies, more items, a redrawn sprite of Ritcher instead of the Rondo of Blood rehash. More music, an extra hand for holding items, and an extra playable character. So I wouldn't call the Playstation version superior.

In spite of the technical issues due to a poor porting job. The extra content makes it hard to go back to the more limited Playstation version.

well most of the "extra" stuff was just tacked on and to me technical superiority is a big plus...but to each his own.

Better to have it than not. I prefer extra content and better controls over transparency effects.

Only some shooters are expensive, the rest of Saturn imports aren't really expensive, even some top-tier games like Burning Ranger or Deep Fear cost only $30. You should check out play-asia becuse ebay seems to be a scam.

And Crows: The Battle Action is average at best. Very cool retro anime design but mediocre gameplay. I don't know why anybody would pay more than $30 for that game.

play-asia is usually my first choice for any imports, but i mostly cleaned them out for what i wanted long time ago. Only missing a few things here and there that are hard to find now-days.

Virtua Cop

Daytona USA (Rollin Staaaaaaart!)

Virtua Fighter 2

Tomb Raider (A great game, even remade on X360 as Tomb Raider: Anniversary Edition)

Panzer Dragoon

Major League Baseball (can't remember the exact title, but it had a great Home Run Derby feature)

The only regret I had with the Saturn is not realizing at the time that Konami made one of the best games ever for it: Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. I now play that game more than any other and have it on the X360 Live Arcade and have unlocked it on the PSP in Castlevania:Dracula X Chronicles.
