Which of these console FPS do you find best and why?

Only exclusives count (only exception is Halo because it was ported to the PC two years later).

I vote for Halo. Maybe not the best FPS ever but certainly did the most for console FPS and was pretty fun too.

For sure Halo. Just brought FPS gameplay to another level, and had a great story. Definitely my favorite FPS ever.

Goldeneye for me. I always thought Halo was a good game but I never thought it reached the level of praise it got, whilst I thought GE was way and above Halo.

I'd have to go with Halo as well. That game was just a triumph on every level and it showed us that consoles could do FPSs just as well as PCs.

Not including Killzone as I haven't played it. 1: Halo: Combat Evolved 2: Perfect Dark 3: Goldeneye 4: Medal of Honour All four of them are awesome games, but my favourite retro console FPS is actually Timesplitters 3: Future Pefect. I'm surprised it wasn't included in the OP.

Halo gets my vote. It was the most polished of the games up there, it had the best storyline IMO, and it had great multiplayer.

Like I said, I'm counting only exclusives. The only exception I made was with Halo because it came on the PC years later and is frankly a console FPS however you turn it.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the exclusive rule. Sorry. You could include Halo anyway as it's still a console exclusive and the title itself is 'Retro -console- FPS fight'.

I think GoldenEye 007 takes the cake, for me, anyway. It was the first FPS I had played since Doom and perhaps the most influential FPS I've ever played.

Looks like GE007 is leading at the moment. Can't deny it's importance :)

The answer is either Goldeneye or Halo............or Halo 2. Why no choice for Halo 2. Perfect Dark was good, but the multiplayer was even laggier than Goldeneye. My vote is Halo 2. Having 4 people on one xbox play on xbox live was a first. I remember when the sword glitch was rare--that lead to some sweet times.

Agreed. Halo seems to have more influence from Quake and Doom than Goldeneye. Goldeneye is very realistic while Halo isn't and is more about the sci-fi surroundings, crazy aliens and weapons.

I went with Goldeneye, I think Halo is a better game but I mostly played the PC version because I jumped on the bandwagon pretty late and it had online multi-player.

Halo.

Refined the mechanics of previous console shooters while bringing in core values of PC shooters, helped standardize the controls we all use today, was fun to play solo, coop or competitive at any point in time, etc.

Really good game, my favorite shooter of all time and one of my favorite games of all time.

Halo, Killzone, and MoH are considered "retro" by kids nowadays...? What is the world coming to...

Also,

Well should I put Zelo Tolerance and Alien vs Predator instead?

I don't think those are terribly interesting today.

And btw I ment the original MoH for the PS1.

1. 1999 ain't retro.

2. The original Alien vs. Predator FPS for PC was far more impressive for its time than Halo and Killzone were for theirs.

1999 is more than a decade ago so I'd say that's retro for sure.

I was talking about AvP for the Atari Jaguar (the PC version is a remake).

Halo is objectively the best IMHO, but I voted Perfect Dark as I don't really consider Halo "retro". Too similar to today's halo's. Perfect Dark does not feel anything like contemporary FPS games. Also, I grew up on Perfect Dark, not Halo, so I'm emotionally biased. ;)

1. I wouldn't count anything after the 16-bit era as "retro." Then again, I was born in the early 80's.

2. Saying AvP for PC is a remake of the Jaguar game is like saying the new AvP game is a remake of the old one. Jaugar AvP and the first AvP for PC were by the same developer, but different games. Even the title is different. (Alien vs Predator, and Aliens vs Predator)

Uh, anything that isn't part of the current generation of consoles is considered retro. The Ps2, Xbox, and Gamecube are all now considered retro consoles.

Halo CE or Timesplitters 2/3 wins it, I'm just waiting for the next Timesplitters game/HD Remake however unlikely they are to come.

Blasphemer.

There's really no point in arguing what's "retro" and what not because there isn't a common denominator what is.

You could say, for example, that only games from the 80s are retro. But someone else may think only the ones from the 70s are retro so there you have it.

It's senseless to argue about it really.

And you don't need to take the word literally anyway. I just used it to refer to FPS games on the past systems.

I have to go with Halo the game that help the Original Xbox get its start. The first Xbox might not have taken off if not for Halo 1

Eh, I'd say the original Playstation is retro. It boils down to game experiences, imo. When we see certain genres fade, in light of newer technology, the system becomes retro.
