Will Silent Hill be on the Xbox 360? I do not have (or plan on getting anything soon) the PS3 or Wii.

In terms of creating the mood of horror and give more of that fear factor, I'd say Silent Hill is better franchise.

In terms of more refined gameplay and action, I'd say Resident Evil is better franchise.

I think it all depends on your personal preference. Both franchise's 5th game will be released on both Xbox 360 and PS3 so no need to worry about that here.

Personally, I'd say screw them both and give me Fatal Frame series.

They are both fantastic series. I think Silent Hill has a bit of an edge in the sense that it it is so visually and mentally disturbing.. each game is just so strange and paranormal, you cant help but think of how much of a nightmare living in each one would be. Resident Evil has aways been awesome as well, and I find the gameplay aspect of Resident Evil to be a bit better since Silent Hill relies a bit too much on trying to open the right 3 or 4 doors out of 100. They are both series though, and I love them both.

Silent Hill is the only game that has EVER scared the bujesus out of me. Silent Hill 2 and 3 are actually on my top 10 games of all time list. I'm also a HUGE fan of Akira Yamaoka's work on the series, especially the music. I have all the CD's and the Special DVD and the hard to find schawg "Robbie Rabbit t-shirt" :D

Silent Hill is scarier and more creative, but I've always found that the Resident Evil games were just more fun to play.

Well SH1 and RE1 are both great but RE was groundbreaking for it's time, SH had a great debut too.

RE2 and SH2 are the peak of both series...when you talk about the best survial horror games ever made it's a toss-up between RE2 and SH2.

Once you get past 2 RE has the advantage. Another interesting thing though is both RE3 and SH3 started to really rehash enviornments...but all in all imo RE3 is a moderate step down from 2 while SH3 is a massive drop-off from 2

RE4 and SH4 aren't even on the same plane, although SH4 is worth checking into due to the superior story.

In terms of quality RE games are so much better than SH games and they're action/sci-fi oriented while SH deal with psychological horror. I'd pick RE because not everyone likes SH games and the gameplay is repetitve and poor. The story and "few" cutscenes are the only good thing about it.

Id say Resident Evil. I just love everything about the series. I agree with gamingqueen, Silent Hill is more scary than the RE series, but in terms of gameplay etc. Its poor.

Thanks.. Thoguh some are exagerrating when telling SH had a great story. The story was fine butit wasn't that great! And the thing which made it fine that it was confusing and required you to beat the game and sometimes even after finishing the game you won't get it.

Well compared to RE stories, SH stories look like masterpiece.

RE provides really poor quality of story in their game.

Well compared to Fatal Frame series, they both suck lol

I have both series and i would go with silent hill because of the story, environments and graphics. However, you should really play both series. I think Silent Hill 2-3 are the best and Resident Evil 2-4 are the best in their series.

Well i have never played SH but i will say that i love the RE series. Also if you have a gamecube, the remake of RE1 is the only game ever to scare me so that i wasre an ink ribbon b/c i want to be able to sleep that night......It's awesome.

Wow, these two are both great games. Silent Hill has more of a dark/crazy twist to it. Resident Evil is more of your usual zombie game, but it's really good. I don't think you could lose either way to be honest. If I had to start with one it would be Resident Evil, but I would try to get into both of them eventually.

I own games from both series and personaly I would be hard pressed to pick just one. Play them both, and decide for yourself, because really, outside of being games that rely on fear to cause a reaction on the player, They are completely different beast. Oh, and if you happen to stumble upon the Fatal Frame games, pick them up. Worthy contenders in the survival horror genre too.

Why are gamers so insistent on comparing an action game to a horror themed game? There isn't much of a comparison to make, they're entirely different games, IMO.

I prefer Silent Hill myself but the Fatal Frame games are better. Those games are the only games to actually scare me. You can't lose with RE or SH imo.
