Unless he's certain on how to help turn around that dying company, why would you bother? That's a really odd move, but good for him if it works out.
Agreed. :P
Board of Directors only has to meet a few times a quarter. Plus, additional reading, nowhere near a full-time job to say the least. Being a Board of Director is a very cushy low attention side of the hustle.
Truth be told, I won't shed a single tears when Gamestop finally closes its doors for the next decade.
Reggie's body isn't ready... unless he wants to go down with the ship.... Unless perhaps he has an air ship. Say whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat.
That was one of the weirdest bits of news I've read in a long time. Either he loves a challenge, or they offered 7 dumptrucks worth of money on his lawn, and threw in a free subscription to Game Informer.
Gamestop is going the way of KMart, Sears and other aging stores, and it's not going to ever get better with digital always on the rise. Why is he bothering with this?
edit - apparently it's only a Board of Directors role. When I read this story earlier today I thought they said it was a much bigger central role, like Chief Operator. Board of Director's role isn't that bad. If Gamestop flops, it's easy to bail out and be none the worse for it.
@onesiphorus: The mod above you didn't seem to care. That said, it wouldn't bother me if it got moved.
How is this relevant to System Wars?

Okay fair point, I'll go ahead and move this one over to the Off-Topic board.
@mandzilla: I had no idea this was consider off-topic. Also, where have you been? We miss ya ;)
Yeah I wasn't too sure myself until it was pointed out, but seems more like a general gaming news thread rather than Games Discussion or System Wars fisticuffs, so OT it is!
Ah, just battling dragons in the valleys of Wales and other life stuff. Sorry for the slacking haha. Hope all's well with you.
I don't really see much good coming out of this. GameStop's already in really bad shape, and Reggie is only on the board of directors, not really the one running the show. But who knows? Maybe because of his background and reputation, the other execs will take his suggestions seriously and things might improve.
Curse my selective dyslexia! For a moment, I read it as Reggie's body is ready for GameSpot.

I really don't think it belongs here either, seems more like a GD thread.
Well, whatever. I'm off to the comment section!

Oh right my bad, well time for this thread to continue on its journey to GD now then lol.
I saw this mentioned on GFAQ so will keep my answer the same_
Not American so none of this has any relevance to me in the slightest. However am a fan of gaming stores, trading for discounts, and deals of physical media. Without stores representing gaming in an interesting/ fun/ and reasonably priced way it would be a sad world indeed.
Fils-Aimé also seems pretty popular in gaming media, and he has a passion for it, though from my understanding GameStop isn't exactly well received so not sure it's worth sinking with that ship. Perhaps something better would come from its ashes?
I guess gamestop has nothing to lose at this point. The man managed to sell burgers and $70 carboard kits, maybe he'll manage the same with their terrible membership cards.
That’s definitely a surprise for sure and quite an interesting one at that.
I bet he's all out of bubblegum. Just side tangent. What is your body ready for? It's a strange expression. I mean, my body right now is ready for a shower and some food. But I guess that wouldn't have the same impact as an intro at E3.
It would be interesting to see if his time with the game industry has given him some ideas as to how to turn things around for Gamestop.
Personally, I would like to see Gamestop make a comeback. I like brick and mortar stores. But I realize things are going digital, so they'll have to find a better way to adapt to that reality.

Me too. Any place where gamers can come together is a plus regardless of the store's policies etc... Almost all of the people who work on the frontlines are genuinely nice people who are passionate about games.
