So I plan on getting both consoles.

The ps4 on launch and than wait a few months and get the Xbox one.

As of right now I have a 53 inch Panasonic Plasma tv.

I was thinking of buying a 3D TV around the same size.

Is it a must to get one for next gen gaming? or is the Plasma good enough.

I really want the whole experience.

I haven't heard 3D come up in either the PS4 or Xbox One reveal conferences. It seems like there isn't the level focus on 3D that there was even a year ago. I wouldn't say 3D is dead in terms of gaming, but no one is emphasizing it anymore.

Personally, I'd really only upgrade if games are going in 4K format (as opposed to the current 1080p)... and I'm not sure if that'll happen so... stick with your nice non-3D TV :)

If you have the dough to burn, which it sounds like you do, then go ahead and get the 3d set. I wouldn't be surprised to see that format have a resurgence in a few years. Also, 3d sets function as fantastic 2d sets, too.
