What games have you played that fall in this category?
For me, Uncharted 3 and GTA4.

Since I don't pay too much attention to trailers, can't really make a good list, when making purchasing decisions,Im only interested in gampelay footage...
But to answer your original question,I say Dead Island.Had a great trailer, but when the game came out,I found it very boring and just couldn't get into it,despite it having many game elements I like a lot...
Dead Island. Yeah I was one of the dopes who paid $60 because of that trailer
Rage - The trailer made me think it was Fallout 3 except with vastly improved shooting mechanics. LOL. It was the most elementary, bog-standard shooter I've played this gen.
Turok - the trailer looked so cool, those jungle environments; awesome! Too bad somebody went through the whole game with a fine-toothed comb and if they found something fun, they removed it and substituted something effed up and maddening in its place.
don't pay attention to trailers, I always buy a game when it's a sequel to a great game or when it has good reviews.
I Am Alive. Come at me bro. There is no other that disappointed more.Elann2008
Me too. The trailer looked awesome all those years ago. Now it just looks bad.
Also Dead Island (while a good game that I enjoyed) was vastly different than its trailer and kind of disappointing
Monster Hunter Tri for me. Most of the trailers were in-game footage, which made it look even more promising, and it ended up being more tedious than fun for me.
Also, a general rule of thumb to follow: If the trailer does not show actual gameplay footage, do not put any stock into it. It may as well not even exist.
Damn...Everyone hates GTA IV. I thought it was great.DeX2010
For me, GTA4 was one of those games with great graphics and nothing more. After a few missions and awkward controls, the fun factor flew right past me.
Final Fantasy 13!! (an utter travesty), Resident Evil 5 (it was still a good game, but not what I expected), Vanquish (game was alright), LA Noir, Red Dead Redemption (UN was better) Dead Island (I was sadly disappointed) and Final Fantasy 13!!!

Lol, damn FF13 must have a major disappointment for you to mention it twice. Was the one where you could see the enemies before you fight them? The last FF I played was the one with Sephiroth.
ThisAssassin's Creed games, best trailers around, but meh game-wise (opinion, don't kill me)

Halo 3 and Halo Reach

o yes, Halo Games, they're marketing stuff is awesome, games are kinda meh
Hunted: The Demon's Forge would be one of them, I also had higher hopes for Duke Nukem Forever. But those are just the two titles that I can think of for 2011.
I was REALLY excited about FF10-2.... then I played it and well... It didn't end well.
Medal of Honor. Had plenty of cool trailers but it turned out to be just another boring military shooter trying to copy Call of Duty...
L.A. Noire. I'm a fan of Rockstar's games and of film noir movies, but this game was not very good. The trailers weren't spectacular, but I regret buying this game.
Assassin's Creed was the best example of this. Show a crazy executioner massacre and then you can't even do half of the moves in the video. Also the crossbow he used wasn't even in the game.

I actually loved Halo 3 I just thought that the campaing was super dissappointing. I thought Bungie would put everything into Halo 3 and make it epic with really large battles and a satisfying ending, but it came out mediocre at best. The Mass Effect series. I don't see the hype behind them. I saw the trailers and thought it would be great, played them and I just didn't like it. Ikouze
I was actually considering picking up ME2 until I downloaded the demo.

zombehhhhh
The trailers had me intrigued as well until I saw some walkthrough vids. Definitely a creative game, but not what I thought it would be.
