Honestly there is no point in preordering unless there is some extras. Sometimes they are pretty good.
Me personally I preorder sometimes because I'm afraid if a game isn't going to be popular I might not be able to find it on day 1. Then again I preordered Halo 3 for whatever reason:roll:
Am I the only person that cares about this topic? Seriously, I'm tired of the elitist attitude that Gamestop has about preorders. They're always like, "if you don't preorder, you won't get it". What's up with that?jubino
Who cares really? I usually preorder games all the time..not because I feel like I have to..its because i want to..
It's good in some circumstances. Either for a pre-order bonus or for a Collector's Edition which there will likely be far fewer copies of. Plus if it's something expensive, like the Rock Band 2 bundle, I pre-ordered that so I could pay it off over time before it came out instead of laying down all that money on release day.Foolio1
There was an episode of the Hotspot in which one of the Gamespot journalists preordered Rock Band 1 and had his copy sold. -_-
I'm not saying all Gamestops do that, but it happens.
The last game I pre-ordered was Super Mario Galaxy for the $25 gift card from Toys R Us. There needs to be a good incentive for me to pre-order anything.Skie7
Something like that would be pretty cool, but Gamestop has been on this kick lately of giving out a bunch of crap. A gun for CoD, a gold plated gun for Gears of War. My question is, who really gives a crap? A gold plated gun? For cryin out loud, how cool is that? You can run around with the other 10000 12 year olds who have it. Stupid as hell.

I was under the assumption that the publisher more or less determined PreOrder gifts, not Gamestop...so who do you blame then?I don't get the idea of why Preordering as a concept should stop. It shouldn't, IMHO, and it's something I frequently do, regardless of if there's an 'incentive' to preorder.
Sometimes is nice to just have the games bought and paid for advance and its convienient for me mostly. I dont care if they earn intrest off my money or not. I like walking into the store, saying "hey I preordered this, heres my phone number" they hand me my game and im gone. Plus onetime I preordered a game and an employee sold my reserved copy to one of his friends which made me furious, and it took me an extra two weeks to get my game. But then the employee got fired and I got a free game for my troubles. Ive been great friends with the manager ever since.GodModeEnabled
But had you not preordered, you probably would've had your game on time and avoided the situation all together. Hell, maybe the guy would still have his job. Please people, think of the employees! Preorders kill babies!

Don't be blinded by the man. Preorders suck.jubinoOr, how about this - How about you really haven't actually said anything to convince me that Preorders are some great evil...becuase they aren't at all. It's a business tactic that stores use for various purposes, that they don't require you to do at any time. You have options, just like I do. I choose to pre-order games and buy more games from Gamestop than other stores, you choose not to pre-order.
If you don't like how the employees at a store treat you, find another store. I have a Gamestop that I go to where the employees know me, and even though they do the basic sales stuff they have to do by policy, they treat me well as a customer, so I keep on coming back.
And here's the shocker - we both win, becuase we have those choices that we can make as consumers.
I have never had a problem finding a copy of a game I wanted on release day.
In the UK when you preorder, you don't pay anything before you get the game, so there's no harm in preordering. I really don't get the US system where you pay in advance, sometimes months in advance, with some people saying they have already paid off Gears 2, or some other game - you pay in full and still don't have the game? Crazy
As one who's job it is to try to get you to preorder, I almost never do. IMHO, it's only worth it if it comes along with some killer swag like a fat gift card, or limited edition action figure or the like. I would reserve for a collecters edition of a game I wanted too. But trust me, if it's a major release, your game shop will have plenty copies to sell. Alot of places use the preorder as a way to determine the potential popularity of a game which figures into how many pcs. are distributed to a location. A.K.A store 5001 did 50 presells...ship them 100.
I remember one year we had a gave away a action figure with one of our LOTR reserves. Thing wasn't as long as my middle finger, which many a customer flashed at me when they saw what they were getting. It was their special way of thanking me...or at least that's what I like to think.
pre-order is a scam.
The reason why this is promoted is because that way, retail companies can get their hands on your money earlier and use that to invest. Just by getting their hands on your money earlier, they can get some massive profit.

well they are making money off of your money. it would be better off in your own account making you the interest money. i can see for hard to find games, then you get something for what you give. or in the case of bonuses it makes sense. i personally just dont see a point in putting my own money to work for them, rather than myself. i wouldnt try to talk anyone else out of what they like to do though, i just personally would never give away free money to them, even if it is a tiny amount.
I have plenty of money in accounts making interest, so putting no more than the bare minimum to reserve a game doesn't make me feel any harm. Furthermore, by having preorders down for less mainstream titles, it creates demand for those games pre-launch, increasing the chances that there will be more copies of that game in stores, and not just for preorders.well they are making money off of your money. it would be better off in your own account making you the interest money. i can see for hard to find games, then you get something for what you give. or in the case of bonuses it makes sense. i personally just dont see a point in putting my own money to work for them, rather than myself. i wouldnt try to talk anyone else out of what they like to do though, i just personally would never give away free money to them, even if it is a tiny amount.

I don't care if they're making money off of me giving them money for a preorder, at all.
