Whenever I start a new video game, the first thing I do, is go into the options and turn the music right off. I don't want music in games. I want the sound effects, the voice speech and all other sound but no music. I want my gaming experience to be realistic. In real life there is no music if you are walking or doing something, you don't go somewhere with an orchestra following behind you with music. So when I play games I don't want any music playing like it's a movie and the music picks up with the action. I want it real, all I want is sound effects, gun fire or sounds of zombies coming at me, but no music.

So I couldn't care less what orchestra or music band is in a game, I have never listened to music in a game. Don't care for it

turning off the music is usually the first thing I do just after hitting every key on the keyboard to get out of the intro cut scene

@tryit: You don't watch the into cut scene? That is the beginning of the game? That's like showing up to a movie 20 minutes late

stories do not belong in games.

its sacrilege as far as I am concerned. So given the type of games I play, I rarely have a cutscene to be fair.

@tryit: I get it, you play the total opposite games of me. For me it's all about the story and the cut scenes.

I have 3 rules of games I will never play

1. No platforming games

2. No games with Quick Time Events

3. Games with respawning enemies

If a game has any of these items in it, I won't play it.

my rules (which are not absolute but more of a guideline)

1. no story

2. no 3rd person view

3. no combat only games

I have some wonderful titles that are in 3rd person view but its (in general) an exception

@tryit: That's cool, I like your game rules, the 3'rd person one is interesting because I think there are a lot of good games in 3'rd person, although I do love first person games a lot too.

no there isnt a lot of good games in 3rd person which is the point of the rule.

it usually signals AAA hyper hype crap games circled with fanbois who do not know any other universe other than being told what games they are supposed to like.

:)

For me it depends on the type of game. If I'm playing something like Tony Hawk's Pro Skater or Doom that has a lot of rock songs, I'll keep the music on because it gets me pumped up.
