Mortal Kombat 2 on Genesis Question

Hi there!

I have been playing MK2 on the Genesis (Mega Drive here).

We're in 2 Player mode and we both have 3 button controllers.

The problem is WE CANT DO ANY OF THE DAMN FATALITIES!!!!!

Every single time... it says 'Finish Him'... you walk up close to the opponent, start pressing the buttons as per what the guides say, but the characters just jump or duck to correspond with the buttons being pressed. Nothing seems to make a fatality happen.

Are we being stupid, or missing something or WHAT?!?!?

I see a lot of the guides say 'hold High Punch (HP)' ... well on a 3 button controller there is no High Punch... there's just PUNCH. That's all. Grrrrrrrrr.

Any advice welcome. PLEEEASE!!
