I know a small sum from my last Monster Hunter: World thread got worried the series would be cutting corners/ being dumbed down as a more 'casual' experience with it going multiplatform.
Since then, we should all know that is anything but. If nothing else, this is the next true evolution of the series and true successor to 2014s MH:4G.
Continues to show this with all the weapons you expect returning, in the World engine_
Katateken (Sword and Shield)
The others can be found in this link- https://www.youtube.com/user/CapcomChannel/videos
All 14 weapon types are returning from the last few games. So check out your favorite weapon classes, and see how they stack-up. If you wanted the return of the X-series Hunting Styles? Well you should already know they're not returning. Personally always found it gimmicky so it's no real lose yet I know some that like the feature_
Moving on, for those Vets who remember and wanted the long removed Tonfa. You won't find that in MH:W, and I know the feeling as I too loved that weapon class.
Lastly, ending on a positive note- the trailers also show various armor-sets as well, so it's worth watching them all to marvel at (as they look amazing in the new game) while the wait is still seeming long.
how do you think newcomers to the series will get on with it
More of a wait and see on that front. From what I know it does have a tutorial with a female character narrating the mechanics, which can also be switched off as an option.
The actual difficulty will depend if MH: World has G-rank hunts or not. With two options to add players for coop however, I think it'll be the most accessible game in the series.
is it coming this year or next
Has a rough release of "early 2018" on X1 and PS4 and will be a worldwide release. Not exclusive timed like previous titles. It will come later to Steam on the P.C. platform.
And I thank that, so I have plenty of time to enjoy TEW2 before this arrives lol.
Turns out World has been in development since 2013, spoken by Fujioka Kaname san himself. So I can't see it being a rushed project that needs more time.
how do you think newcomers to the series will get on with it
More of a wait and see on that front.
i shall do just that then. looks good on the surface and i imagine the combat is suitably nuanced and deep, my fear is that sometimes japanese games can be a bit esoteric in style and it may be difficult for newbs to the series like me to connect with it
@Macutchi: I would not recommend it on a whim, Monster Hunter is a long running franchise that has only expanded on its depth and versatility. Its combat system is much the same you would find in a game like Dark Souls, though with even more layers. One thing all Weapon types share in these games, is it's a battle of patience and timing. Knowing when to evade/ roll/ and attack is a matter of life and death.
In coop it eases some of those tense moments, with also being a support unit, plenty of ranged weapon types to pick from if you like to keep distance_
As well as the Shuryobue (Hunting Horn) which to put it simply is a Scotland bagpipe that buffs or heals all hunters within a near area.

I know you're somewhat humoring me with all the negative feedback I give Horizon: Zero Dawn in GD and its connection to the MH franchise. Yet if World flops somehow? I have only myself to blame for jumping in the deep-end :)
A single-player Evolved then... My hopes have been reduced to near zero.
Not even close!
Are you not familiar with Monster Hunter? They have multiplayer, up to four player coop to be exact (in the main entries). And World is confirmed to have the 4-player coop experience.
The gameplay is more like a boss rush game- think Shadow of the Colossus with Dark Souls/ Dragon's Dogma combat in the mix (those two heavily borrow from MH).

Souken (Dual Blades) My favorite along with the Long Sword. Gotta love those faster weapons.
@Starshine_M2A2: If you could expand on that, it would be helpful. But right now your comment comes across as troIIing maybe?
Please explain how Evolve works like an Action RPG like Monster Hunter/ Dogma/ or DkS?
I always thought Evolve was a hide n' seek/ FPS, that just lets one player in a lobby of 5 take control of the enemy, that must grind the map to be an actual threat to the team of 4.
I would compare Evolve more to the recent Friday the 13th game myself.
From looking up the Evolve for this reply the only thing it really has in common with MH is the name "Hunters". The Hunters themselves from Evolve function a lot like your typical Arena FPS (Quake/ Team Fortress/ and Unreal)
I see no other note-worthy comparison outside the name "Hunters", but again I'm willing to read why you think otherwise.
@RSM-HQ: Excuse me? Since when is having a different opinion on a video game considered trolling?
FYI; A good portion of my daily activities involves protecting people from trolls who post the kinds of messages you couldn't dream up in your worst nightmares.
Do NOT accuse me of trolling. You don't know the meaning of the word.
@Starshine_M2A2: Spare me your 'you don't know the meaning'; used the Internet and Forums long enough to know that particular urban term. As well as 'Comes across as troIIing', and actual "troIIing" are two different things. What you've posted comes across as the prior, due to your choice of words.
Troll//a line of bait used to disrupt, causing potential argument and negative-vibes. disrupting normal, on-topic discussion, often for the troll's amusement
Though trying to give you the benefit of the doubt. From what I know you just know very little about MH and chatting from a gut reaction?
As stated, you're not really telling why Monster Hunter is seemingly like Evolve. You're just stating it is, for what it seems to dismiss the game as a negative for no purpose other than to downplay the thread about the game you should have looked into before posting. Yet, proudly call it two things it's not.
So again, if you could expand on the "Evolve" statement, as the "single-player" part is not worth discussion.
So yeah, would be helpful. If not? you've only proven my point and otherwise only expanding with off-topic discussions to this thread.
Well then you clearly have no fucking idea what you're talking about since you think that anyone who disagrees with you is 'trolling' - which does not remotely resemble the definition you've just cited.
And "Comes across as troIIing', and actual "troIIing" are two different things" while true is complete nonsense here since for me to come across as trolling, you would have to assume that I am in fact trolling you in the first place...
You also seem to be under the impression that the only purpose of a forum is to reinforce your own point of view and that people are not allowed to post their own opinions and anyone who does so is 'downplaying the thread' - which leads me to believe you don't understand how a forum works either.
But I don't think this is really about any of that - I think you're just pissed off because someone had a negative opinion of your favourite video game - which is beyond pathetic. This new instalment isn't out yet so I can only base my opinion on what has been released about it so far, but my view of it is that it amounts to little more than a hunting simulator with monsters which is exactly what Evolved was. If you're trying to suggest that it has a more Borderlands vibe to it, that doesn't gel either since this game seems to possess no soul, heart and comes across as quite a sterile and lifeless title.
If you can't handle my opinion of this title, I'm afraid that's on you. My advice to you is to grow a backbone and deal with it. And while you're doing that, you can also grow up, conduct yourself maturely and choose your words more carefully in future.
@Starshine_M2A2: Well thanks for providing nothing of use to back your previous statements and only start screeching with swears and other none Monster Hnter related information.
This is Games Discussion so if you're not going to expand on your Evolve theory I'm not really interested.
As stated my note was that of an assumption, and you have only chosen to use this thread for your needless banter, when it was a light-hearted question of if you're troIIing at best.
Though on your 'opinion' on this games thread is no different to me doing this-
'World of Warcraft is a single-player League of Legends then... My hopes have been reduced to near zero.'

An interesting note for new comers is Monster Hunter: World has a mount system, much like Shadow of the Colossus and Dragon's Dogma. In some previous games it was a mini-game but in the new game it will be done with re positioning and various attack types.
Reason for this is to avoid the creature ramming itself into a wall with you taking damage, and the other is so you can have a better chance chopping of the creatures tail or horn. Yes, Monster Hunter games have a habit of letting you slice off limbs, and it's very useful for crafting new armor and weapons

I have already expanded on my post and given perfectly legitimate reasons for why I thought it.
And you cite this board as 'Games Discussion' and yet are utterly opposed to anything resembling a discussion.
So my earlier opinion has been proven correct - you're an idiot. You don't know what trolling means, you don't know what banter is and you don't know how a forum works and therefore have no business here at all.
Also you may be interested to know that World of Warcraft is NOT a single-player game.... Easy mistake to make though. It's only one of the most popular video games in history...

As for not knowing what banter means, unless you invented both the defintion of troII and banter I'll take this definition over your ego.
Banter// the playful and friendly exchange of teasing remarks.
Have a nice day and try to look past the games name
no soul, heart and comes across as quite a sterile and lifeless title
Is it my favorite game series of all time? perhaps one of, but that's no reason for yourself to come in with such an attitude problem. I was willing to have a discussion on this, and you brought a lot of hate with you instead of a mature discussion.
So, if someone would like to continue this thread back on the right track? That would be greatly appreciated. Otherwise at this point I'd rather a Moderator lock-it, because I'm done after trying to patch this falling thread back together. . lol

Next to zero of this bizarre rambling made any kind of sense. Your cited definitions of words don't correspond to anything that you're saying. Then you claim I haven't expanded on my original post before quoting my own explanation of it.
Yes, banter is teasing. Does it sound like I'm trying to tease you? And you claim I'm the one with an attitude problem, yet you're perfectly happy to keep this going by responding to my posts. If I have an attitude problem, then surely you do as well.
And your meme is cute and all but at no point did I say or express hate of anything - including MH. So, this just comes off as more pretentious nonsense that you don't know the meaning of.
In short, you don't appear to know much of anything...
I've never seen someone so triggered by being asked if they were trolling.

He responded to your post with a question and information. Provided a clear response that had a direct information stating the game is not strictly singleplayer and that the gameplay is more akin to Action RPG examples.
@RSM-HQ: That sounds identical to Evolved...
Responding with a single line with no supporting details and no new information. This response does nothing to back the opinion stated. To me, it looks like a response just meant to bait further discussion of two unrelated games. I would take this a light-hearted troll attempt.

This is a well thought out response providing examples, supporting information, and direct reasoning. Factually stating the type of game Evolve is, asymetrical multiplayer First Person Shooter. That the characters in Evolve play like Arena Shooters and providing specific comparisons. Stating Monster Hunter is an Action Role Playing Game. Providing specific comparisons to this type of game.
Although a possible belief of trolling was mentioned, it was clear that it was remaining majority of the response was to further the discussion of the similarities in question.
From here it is nothing but triggered nonsense on what is and isn't trolling(which has varying levels, from light hearted nonsense to completely offensive).
To be honest, I would personally like to hear more on the belief that this game is like Evolve.

I've never given Monster Hunter a chance. Hardly triggered since there was no display of hostility and nothing I said was unreasonable.
Nothing of what I said was nonsense and was entirely justified by his attempts to label me a troll simply for disagreeing with him. That was my point and that's what I was trying to explain to him - but he didn't want to listen. At no time, did anything he said make any real sense, his posts were riddled with contradictions, retractions and general gibberish. Oh, and by the way, he accused - he did NOT ask.
And his posts were hardly 'thought out'. A 'thought out' post would have been a 2,000 word essay or a blog post - not a couple of sentences stating his opinion with nothing to back it up.
When I say nonsense, I mean that it was not relative to the main point of MH itself or even the comparison of Evolve to Monster Hunter. Granted, that means that the opening 75% of my first post is nonsense, as well as the first half of this response, to which I admit.
When I say thought out, I mean relative to standard posts made in a forum. Looking at the following, I personally think it would not be hard to determine which set seems more thought out:

Also, please note that the phrasing of the following mention regarding trolling includes the word maybe(not definitive) and a question mark(which normally indicates the asking of a question) "But right now your comment comes across as trolling maybe?"
I did not see anyone say "You are a troll", "Nice troll response", "Trolololol", etc.(Granted forum posts can be edited and it may have been phrased differently in the original or a post may have been deleted)
I'd like to put all this behind us and move on to the topic at hand, since an agreement will not be reached on the who said what and what x means. Nor does it matter much
Any chance you could provide further explanation to why you believe this game is like Evolve in your opinion, which you have a right to and I do not wish to disparage that.
You had stated, ..."my view of it is that it amounts to little more than a hunting simulator with monsters which is exactly what Evolve was."...
I appreciate the correlation made between the two games, but I think it's a bit of an over simplification of what the game is. That would be like saying Super Mario is a jumping simulator or that Gone Home is a walking simulator. There is more to games than just a simplified thought.
Whether it be story(None at all, Heart touching narrative, Scant lore left for you to find an piece together, etc.), perspective(First Person, Third Person, Top Down, Side Scrolling, etc.), gameplay(shooting, brawling, weapon, puzzles, platforming, etc.), characters(create your own, established, rng, etc.), almost every game is different and there are specific nuances that cause one person to latch onto a game, while another would leave it in the dust.
I think that there are enough differences between Evolve and Monster Hunter to believe that grouping them together or discarding one because of another would be a misrepresentation of each game.
Evolve is in the first person perspective. Has no story basis as the main game play is multiplayer matches. Evolve is a team shooter with the main weapon being guns. Evolve's characters are class based.
Monster Hunter is third person. Has a story, not in the traditional sense, but in the sense of your characters journey to becoming a top class monster hunter. Monster Hunter is an action RPG with melee weapons being the focus. Monster Hunter has established world characters and your character is one you create and mold to your liking.
@slimster2309: I don't believe this...Just because he uses MORE words in his post does not mean any thought has gone into it. He is simply stating his opinion the same as I am. Oh, and thank you for the condescending definition of what games are. It's not like I've been playing them for 30 years or anything...
Now, to your actual post;
First you write this ridiculously long message picking and twisting everything I've said to make it seem like I never explained what I meant by my previous comments.
Then you attempt to manipulate me by quoting my previous post where I provided an explanation of EXACTLY that in the hope that I won't retaliate or view it as an insult...
You also claim he added the word 'maybe' to his accusation of trolling, and, yes, that word was edited in after the fact...
Then, to top it off, after all of this, you claim you want us all to get along. You're an absolute jerk!
I don't what's worse. Your hypocrisy or his arrogance.
For starters, i did not mean to be condesensing. I apologize if i came off that way. Im relatively new to forum posting and i know i probably dont phrase what im trying to say in the best of ways. I was only looking to broaden the scope of how we are comparing the two games.
Im also sorry that i was unaware of the edit made.
Im not trying to manipulate or twist anything. I simply refrenced the two quotes i used in my initial post. Then made refrence to your further explanation, because on the topic of comparisons, that line matters and is part of your explanation. The issue is that you only went as far to say both are "hunting simulators" and that makes them sound "identical".
Im not looking to be friends or enemies, just passing acquaintances with a similar interest, which happens to be games.
@slimster2309: I don't what's worse. Your hypocrisy or his arrogance.
Do yourself a favor and at least dial it back on other Users, it's me you're throwing your anger at. If you're going to continue-on trashing me repeatadly that is? Can't even fathom how much you're mocking my English to be honest; it's not that bad lol. And from what I've read, you're hardly one to be making complaints on spelling and grammar. English is my second language, what's your excuse jerk?!
Honestly sick of trying to chat with your System-War-worthy attitude. It's gone on long-enough, and worse, I'm being lowered to your level of childish insults.
So after this; going back to what I do on here, and that's chat games. Seeing as this nonsense of you whining for almost half the thread (thank you) was never what I intended with this thread.
You want to get personal, run after, tell me to 'get a life'/ 'girlfriend'/ or 'education' as previously stated along with all the rest in which you wrote? Feel free, if it helps you sleep Mr A-man_ I'm a grown-person with a full-time job, educated in my field, and have >a< casual partner. Your petty insults don't have much weight. It's you damaging these games discussions that I'm finding annoying. If you have nothing to add? Get lost_
All I want to do is discuss games with Gamers, and you've resorted to endless name-calling, trying to get personal, and insult after insult after me asking if you was "trolling". . . Seriously! Even hounded me on other threads in Games Discussion like an immature child, and for why? Is anyone's guess, but it's not my concern. Unlike you questioning my life, yours in none of my business, because I don't care about that.
I won't even apologise for if that original statement offended you, it's a statement I would use again given similar replies of vague insight. It comes across as >troIIing<
If this is offensive to you on any level? As mentioned. Don't care. I'm done trying to have a reasonable conversation with you, that should have been clear at #18 if you're even half as intelligent as you claim to be. Yet feel free to trash me all you like. Though as I've always asked, if you can keep it off the threads? That would be awesome.

Welcome and sorry for the thread becoming the state it is. With that, where were we?
I'm not a fan of using the term streamlined, yet that's the best word for what I'm going to write about. One thing I believe will help newcomers, is how the animations have been changed to alleviate MHs known strict patience, I'll show some examples for what I'm implying-
In the games before Monster Hunter: World (these above examples being 4G) when using a potion/ sharpen your weapon/ picking up loot/ or using 'well' any items lol. Your Hunter was locked in an animation; which at average lasts for up-to 5-7 seconds, this means no movement, or evasion possibilities, essentially you're vulnerable to attacks and environmental hazards. Which would make timing these actions far more risky than most new players are 'likely' willing.
In the new game however, they've made it so not only are the animations shorter (no muscle-man pose), you can also move while performing these tasks. I'm very two-minded on this. As I'm not entirely sure it's for the better. The live gameplay described it as a balancing re-adjustment for them making the monsters ''faster and more aggressive'', but that remains to be seen in my opinion.
I think this gameplay tweak alone makes it more accessible to newer players that didn't enjoy the dated tropes of the Monster Hunter franchise.
And on-top of that, you now have two ways to add players towards your Quest. The standard of these games has been meeting other players in the Tavern, which works like an online lobby. Now you can add players during your current Hunt as well at anytime (case they loose connection or your friend just came back from work) whichever reason, it encourages new players with these steamlined features.
Still dislike calling it streamlined lol, hope that helps :)
@SOedipus: Enjoyment is individualized I suppose, the former could have done without personally.
But glad someone's finding it a good read, just don't count on it continuing on my end, I'm done with it. Though fairly sure a certain someone will have a rant-filled reply in the near-future.
I just plan on ignoring it and moving on with Monster Hunter talk.
So if you have anything to discuss or ask on MH or MH: World? feel free, I'm still trying to make this a hype/ positive vibes thread :)
. . Oh who am I kidding, I failed that 16 hours ago lol

It seems that Capcom is making similar adjustments to their game as From Software did with the Dark Souls series. At least, in reference to use of Estus Flasks in Dark Souls. The change of being able to use Estus Flasks while walking in DS3 offered players some leniency on when they chose to regain health. Not only do I believe the change was to ease in new comers to the series, but it seemed necessary for the same reasons, as you are facing faster and more aggressive enemies and bosses. Although, I know this probably isn't a 1:1 comparison.
@RSM-HQ said:
With the previous comparison you made to Dark Souls in terms of combat, in specific the mention of the ability to evade/roll, does this have i-frames like Dark Souls and tied to the timing of the action or is this action based on spacing to avoid your hitbox from being touched?
@slimster2309: i agree. That's a very accurate comparison, it is a lot like the Estus Flask from Dark Souls III.
Invincibility frames are in Monster Hunter games, however to evade successfully one usually needs to unsheathe the weapon, otherwise you do a side trot with no i-frames to exploit. They're exceptions to this rule, Dual Blades have Demon mode, and confirmed for World is the Sword and Shield class can now do all unsheathed actions with the weapon drawn. Which makes S&S the perfect class for most newcomers easing into MH.
@slimster2309: Monster Hunter 4G for me personally is one of the greatest games of all time, and has a decent tutorial mode. XX, and 3G just don't compare lol. Whichever of the recent 3 you pick they're all on 3DS (XX also on Switch), so if you have the device? enjoy your options :)
However the lack of a second analog (unless you have c-stick or Pro-addon) may put you off. If that the case, waiting for World or even a potential public demo of World maybe the better choice for new Hunters. They have hinted a few times a demo build is on the way.
@RSM-HQ: I appreciate the information, as well as the recommendation.
I have a 3DSXL, but unfortunately I need to perform some repairs to it before I can go ahead and start playing. Although, now I have a good reason to actually get that done and out of the way.
*And I do apologise again for how this thread went-down, and that another User got caught into the pointless argument between me and Starshine. As the OP I should have handled the matter far better than I did, preferably ended it before logging off.

You refuse to let it go. It's like you WANT an argument...
To prevent me bumping this exact thread down-the-line, here is a link to all interested in future Monster Hunter: World announcements before its release next year.
The page will provide updates before other sites (unless being video content counterpart so that's worth noting if like myself you're hungry for more information https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCyuEAZQzRqhcaLZvQd9ZUNA)
http://www.capcom.co.jp/monsterhunter/world/
The language can be changed on the homepage from a selection. However if you have trouble finding the language selection? (for many I assume English is preferred?) try putting >Monster Hunter: World official home page< in your search engine of choice, and follow the link that'll have www.capcom.(will vary depending on language) /monsterhunter/world/
I have tested this with German and English and they provide the same information as the Japanese website. So should be useful information for those following this game.
@GameboyTroy: Was hoping every MH fan or interested Gamer would have moved onto the other thread I made for the new trailers, as this thread is getting pretty old and had some troubles through its length_
But considering no ones posting in that one. Here is more information some may deem as useful
We're going to continue with free DLC support. We have lots of cool ideas for collaborations -Tsujimoto Ryozo sama
This information along with many other details can be found in the link I posted in #39. Includes the developers using another Capcom game as light influence to this project. New abilities for your comrades, and how many players can hang-out in a Gathering Hall/ Tavern (lobby).
