Do you think it's a good idea for MGS to go down the open world route?

Are you someone who loves MGS but hates open world games?

It's looking good so far if anything it won't be lacking in polish.

Any other thoughts on the game will be appreciated.

There's a better link in the next comment.

Linked your article for less trouble.

Looking good. Open world is great for MGS I think and is needed to fully realize its potential. I already know I'll hate the story beyond belief (I can't stand Kojima's disjointed, convoluted, self-indulgent, horribly written, laughably pretentious narratives), but I've always very much enjoyed MGS from a mechanics/gameplay standpoint and from that it looks to deliver. I just hope the cutscenes are kept to a minimum though Kojima has acknowledged that 4 suffered from it and promised he'll reign them in this time.

I'll pick this up definitely.

Depends ? Will the Objectives be Isolated to a single tiny area of the map in a linear fashiom like every other open world action game or will it make use of the space ?

We won't know, no matter what the demo shows, untill it comes out....

All you can say for sure is CUTSCENES ! ! ! :p

@Lulu_Lulu: how would you implement mission objectives to take place across a wider area in an open world game?

Easy ! The exact same way Hitman Absolution does it....... By giving the AI a complex Script.... A Schedule, if you will, only instead of a large map their schedule will span across the majority of Open World enviroment.. Taking them across various parts of the map to perform a variety of different tasks.

Then I'l keep the Mission Objective as Simple as Possible with Zero conditions.

@Behardy24

LOL.... And then gamers will use that as "proof" of good storytelling in a video game....

Couldn't help but think OP was taking some sort of survey for KJP whilst not stating that sed person is employed by...KJP. LoL

Can't wait to start playing this game. Gonna be fun. Very curious still about what they're doing with online multiplayer VS modes, ect. I hope it's a major overhaul from MGS2.0 ugh. ^_^

I'm just glad this is coming out on the 360 so still no real reason to get a next gen console for a good while.

I like the open world idea, a good way to evolve. That said I am a metal gear fan so I am sure I would find something to like regardless.

That would make a whole mess of sense, as last gen consoles are still relavant and seems like they will be for a while yet, and yes it would be hilarious.

I really enjoyed Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes so I think MGS in an open-world environment will fit quite well. This game looks amazing so I'm definitely looking forward to picking it up day one.

I like the open world in games increasingly so. I think open environments lend themselves well to a game like MGS but, my main problem with the MSG is that you get rewarded for being quick and not killing. I like to take my time and also I like to kill and not have to do non-lethal moves for a good rating.

and yet theres still no PC version.... I thought we they were above this....

@10854

Don't worry about what the game rewards..... Play the you want and you'l be happy.... The gameplay is its own reward right ?
