Unfortunately (and ironically?) a game needs more than just gameplay
Not sure that's factual.
Based on Monster Hunter World now selling some 17 million copies (including Iceborne expansion), 90 on Metacritic, and talks of being one of the best games this generation. I think the statement doesn't hold much truth.
That game in which is all about boss-like battles and deep system mechanics. But that game has fantastic gameplay. Many other games have also won critical and user praise from nothing more than a focus on gameplay.
Ok so lets really look at the problems with Anthem. Not played Anthem but based on Dragon Age: Inquisition and a few other Bioware works I've dipped into I can say Bioware offer serviceable gameplay at best, better shooting than Mass Effect really isn't a compliment either. I've also read people say outside of flying the gameplay really isn't anything special. Now I know some will kick back at this but keep reading_
What Bioware seem to specialise in is presentation, and I will give them praise for that, they make some great art both visually and for soundtracks. Part of which is usually joined with story, which this game is lacking this time around_
So, if anything if a game fails on being what its demographic yearn for, and more a hollow pretty face? I thank that people have gained common sense making these problems known. And really the feedback may benefit Bioware, appealing to its demographic, over alienating them.
