If you had to part ways with most of your collection, without thinking about it too much, what games would you keep?

Even though you may list all your favourites, I guess this is a way of approaching things differently.

I've gone back to physical recently, but I'm only buying my absolute favourites back. :P So, good news there I guess? If I buy a game from this point on and didn't end up liking it or know I won't replay it, I'll probably end up selling it.

This is all that comes to my mind without having to think too much. In no particular order:

Popolocrois (PSP)

A Hat in Time (Switch/PC)

Mario Odyssey (Switch)

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (3DS)

Dragon Quest VII (3DS)

Final Fantasy VII/X (PC)

Maybe the Kingdom Hearts games. In particular 2 or Birth By Sleep (PS4)

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (Switch)

Psychonaughts (PC)

Kao the Kangaroo: Round 2 (PC)

@speeny: Hmm, is this physical only then? Suppose that makes it a little easier to list_

Find this difficult regardless because the games I usually list as my 'quote-on-quote' favorites are the ones would always return to/ hold-onto and be plentiful. I don't really value one-and-done mentality games. They're usually the ones I find a lot of negatives with_

Suppose for context I will attempt and list ten just like you Speeny. Though that's a rough sum considering tend to avoid "top ten games ever" listings because cannot narrow down without feeling I missed something special.

Regardless, here is my attempt. I will regret it later-

  • Dragon's Crown (PS4)
  • Dark Souls III (PS4)
  • Monster Hunter World: Iceborne (PS4)
  • Makai Senki Disgaea: Refine (Switch)
  • Devil May Cry 3 (P.C.)
  • CastleVania: Anniversary Collection (Switch)
  • Tekken Tag Tournament 2 (PS3)
  • Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze (Switch)
  • Splatoon 2 (Switch)
  • Resident Evil 4 (P.C.)

All of my Master System, 7800 and Genesis games. All boxed, I'd be hard pressed to get rid of them.

Some good variety there, I'd say. :)

I’d keep all of my big box pc games. Still have about 15. I’d sell off the newer console games I have cuz those are easy to replace.

This is a tough one, but these are the games I would keep for good memories:

  • Gameboy Advanced: Golden Sun/Lost Age
  • Xbox: Halo: Combat Evolve
  • PS2: Oni
  • PS3: Heavenly Sword
  • PS4: Horizon: Zero Dawn
  • Xbox 360: Lost Odyssey
  • Xbox One: Rare Replay
  • Dreamcast: Crazy Taxi (because that game made me discover awesome Band: Offspring)
  • Sega Saturn: Nights into Dreams
  • Sega Genesis: Sonic the Hedgehog (a very important memory of my childhood)
  • Gameboy: Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow
  • PC: Crysis (physical game)

PC physical copies I would keep not only because of nostalgia because it's a rarity now to have PC physical games not to also mention these are some of my fav games of all times.

  • Battlefield 2 and expansion pack Special forces along with it's booster packs Euro forces and Armored Fury.
  • Crysis
  • F.E.A.R.
  • Max Payne& Max Payne 2
  • GTAV the last physical version of a Rockstar game on PC
  • GTA IV my first disk is scratched from dropping it but it still works I like to think of this as a metaphor for the PC port of this game.
  • Orange Box
  • Max Payne 3

In a situation like this, I would most likely pick arcadey games you can play over and over with friends:

F-Zero GX

Super Monkey Ball 2

Motorstorm Pacific Rift

Power Stone 2

Soul Calibur 2

Heavy Metal Geomatrix

King of Fighters XIII

The Last Blade

Smash Bros Ultimate

Mortal Kombat 9 and Deception

Virtua Fighter 5

Unreal Tournament 2004

Def Jam Fight for NY

ARMS

Good question... the only physical games I keep anymore are my absolute favs from past & present that I'm very nostalgic for. So I'd definitely keep these:

  • Super Mario Sunshine (GC)
  • Zelda Wind Waker (GC)
  • Metroid Prime (GC)
  • Tony Hawk's PS 4 (GC & Xbox)
  • Super Mario Galaxy (Wii)
  • Super Mario Odyssey (Switch)
  • Halo 1 & 2 (Xbox)
  • Project Gotham Racing 2 (Xbox)
  • GTA San Andreas (Xbox)
  • Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (Xbox)
  • Orange Box (Xbox 360 & PC)
  • Bioshock (Xbox 360)

Shit. Just put them all on GamePass. "Owning" games is too much of a pain.

I just want a digital copy so I can play through and move on to the next game.

That said I do have a PS1 RPG collection, but I sure as hell don't actually pull them out and play them. There are waaay better ways to do that.

Yeah, I've been doing that recently too. I think that's what matters the most tbh. Not the size of your physical collection but more so are you able to look at it and say: "Yeah, this is the stuff I love."

Definitely agree. The only ones I still play regularly are my Gamecube games, but I still like having them sitting on my shelf just to look at... it always brings a smile to my face.
