ever since ps2 i need faqs not just to not miss but to solve the darn damn puzzles i am stucked in wild arms 5 right, i just hate puzzles. i think faq is a great way to play games and is a must in most cases, for e.g. i am currently playing suikoden 3 and without the faq i would not have collected the 108 stars. I use faqs a lot.ambitiousknight
I used it last year to get all Batman: Arkham Asylum riddler trophies and now I'm using for every single level on Demon's souls. This game...
If I get really stuck or if the game has no instruction booklet worth a damn (I am looking your way fighting games)
Only if i get stuck.

Normally this, but I also use FAQs whenever I'm doing a 100% run of certain games, considering a lot of games are painfully esoteric and vague when it comes to getting certain items or tracking down what you already have.
If I ever feel like I absolutely have to use a walkthrough to figure out where to go next then that is the point at which I shut the game down & never turn it on again.
Ive found i need the help of the official guides that companies publish when a game is released. But only for really big games like Skyrim, or RPG's like Final Fantasy because half the time i miss something really important that i can't go back to.
Depends on the game and the achievement. I had to resort to one to get Tech Curator for Enslaved - I just wouldn't have found that last clutch of orbs without it. I don't think I would have been able to beat Valkyria Chronicles without a guide either.
If I'm really really really stuck or dunno where else to go and do in a game, then I'll start relying on a little it of a gameguide from gamespot or ign.com or ew at gamefaqs to find out what to do.
Gamespot's game guides are pretty much the same as the IGN guides for games
Only as a last resort, if I'm hopelessly stuck and simply can't figure out where to go or how to solve a puzzle, or the game has frustrated me to the point where there's no longer any joy to be had from the experience and my only desire is to get to the end so I can at least pretend I got my money's worth.
Otherwise, I avoid strategy guides, Wikis, walkthroughs, and FAQs at all costs. Because there's nothing like overcoming a difficult trial or uncovering a cleverly hidden secret on your own. Though, if I've played through a game multiple times and know I'm still missing stuff - cool stuff - then I might delve into a guide to go through it once more and unlock/uncover everything. But there aren't many games where I felt that completist compulsion.
