Here is the vid how "Super Mario FX" could look like on the SNES with Super FX chip:

Obviously a fake but I think it's funny. :P

This is something for those of us who like to think about how a game would look like on much less capable hardware.

(SM64 originally started as "Super Mario FX" and on the SNES in the case you don't know)

Yep, that's about how I would have imagined it.

Show's the huge graphical leap between the systems, which was probably the biggest ever between consoles. I doubt we'll ever see such a huge leap again...

lol. Come one guys. It would look bad, but not THAT bad. There were 3D games on SNES that looked better than that, especially if they combined the Mode 7 graphics with polygons. This would have been a first-party game so it would get a big budget and plenty of spit and shine.

I mean seriously, when Mario jumped out of that pipe I laughed out loud.

Would've been interesting to see what a 3D Mario game would look like on the Super Nintendo (with the help of the FX chip and all).

I don't remember Star Fox looking any better than that.

I don't remember mentioning Star Fox in my post. Check out Stunt Race FX or Vortex for better examples of 3D on the SNES.

I dunno.

I was pretty impressed by the animation actually (sans the 2D Mario sprite which was lulzy).

Mode 7 floors with 3D polygon objects would give the game a more "flat" look.

The author of the vid was clearly trying to recereate the full polygon look of SM64 (sans the trees, which were 2D sprites even in SM64).

Personally, I was thinking something like Vortex before I saw this vid.

Looked fine, except the mario sprite wasj ust really low resolution, and the way it walked up across the field looked wrong.
