How long until the NEXT generation of consoles?

How long until the next generation of consoles will hit the market? How long will the current gen (360, Wii, PS3) last?

id say around 2012-2013

i also predict by that time they'lldevelope photo-realistic graphics and have gone in the direction of motion sensing controls and etc.

Well i suppose the Wii will be around for some time longer as it is the 'new' one, I expect the PS3 is in a simliar case. The 360 has been around longer than the others, so who knows, maybe something new from Microsoft:question:

I think this gen may be slightly longer than the previous ones, considering consoles this gen are relatively more expensive and therefore could take longer in the successive price-drops, sells, etc.

Look at the latest news from microsoft, 360s are defective, this means they haven't started to sell the good ones yet, there is also a new model of the PS3 with 80GB. The consoles are already in the shelves, but the design continues, considering how focused are on current gen and will probably be for some time console makers this gen may last longer. Ken Kutaragi had already designed PS4 and PS5, but he isn't working for sony now and probably nobody at sony is thinking about PS4 now.

I'm predicting 2012 will be the year of the next generation of consoles. It will also be the generation when controllers are completely redesigned, another new (physical) format will be introduced, console launch prices will be 15% higher then the generation befores launch price, games will cost 10-20% more, developers will introduce online downloads of new games but it will fail to take off in a big way due to internet speeds not being fast enough in most areas to download the games in a reasonable amount of time, downloadable games will be 10% cheaper than the same games bought in a store, the average game willbe 100gig, smaller developers will be squeezed out of the race and will be forced to produced XBLA type games for consoles, Sony will introducean oven as standardin it's next console, Microsofts next console will come with 8 cigarette lighter plug for its add ons and Nintendos console will come in 4 versions shapped like Mario, Zelda, Samus and a Red Bulborb covered with Pikmin(how cool would that be!!).

There is a 95% chance of all this happening.

Until then we will have to put up with every 6-12 months a redesign of the current consoles.
