-I got Mass Effect used via trade (and no, MS and EA, there is NO WAY I would have bought it new); turned out I loved it and the universe that Bioware created -I bought Mass Effect 2 and 3 new along with DLC for both -I would have never experienced nor paid for any product in the Mass Effect series if I was not able to get the first game secondhand and both MS and EA would not have made a penny from me -Games ain't cheap so if I can't get any equity out of the games I have, I will be extremely particular about the games I buy in the future and may not give a new IP a chance knowing that the game has no value if I happen to hate it

With used games I'm able to experience old games that either slipped under my radar or came out when I was too young to play them. And I've been able to find some really really good games used. Of course if there were the option to buy them new at a reasonable price I would have done it. But after a while its impossible to find many games new. Especially games that had a small number of copies printed for them.

A few times here and there for current gen if I can't find it new.  I'll always buy new unless there is no other choice, it has nothing to do with me saving money, it's all about supporting those who make the games I enjoy.  I'd rather my money go towards them so they can continue to give me the enjoyment of making new games, instead of me saving a few bucks initially and have these companies try to pull off this DRM crap.  Not saying those buying used are necessarily supporting that, but it does piss me off to see people buy a used game $5 cheaper at Gamestop.  That bothers me.

Saving money.  Used game discs in good condition perform no differently than new discs but the price is considerably less than new games, particularly new releases, and few new releases are worth the release price.  Used games wouldn't be an issue if new games were of better quality and more reasonably priced.  $60 for a game is just not worth it, IMHO.

I own 2 Used games, Gears Of War 3 I bought it used on impulse for $15 and Bayonetta. I came late to the Platinum party because RPG Elements are a soul sucking waste of time, it started out small, alil Skyrim here, alil Fallout there and before I knew it I sank 500 hours into Final Fantasy XIII and it was 2012 and Bayonetta & Vanquish were extremely scarce by the time I was ready to play it. The supplier failed to restock the item to my usual store and Importing the game would cost $90, then some good hearted stranger listed a used copy of Bayonetta for a generous $15 and I orderd it from him (or her, I'm not really sure) and a few weeks later my dear sweet Bayonetta arrived in the mail and I still play her till this day, Vanquish (brand new) will be here soon too aswell, its gona be an awesome threesome!

Just in this recent generation alone I've saved literally hundreds (or more) of dollars and I've used some of that money to buy new games/systems.

I don't have to buy games at full price, I can wait longer to buy games for later, and if I want to buy a game that came out a long time ago, said game is usually extremely expensive new (like a lot of Gamecube games) and therefore don't have to pay absurd amounts for certain games.

They were essenital to me in the days before direct download, Ebay and other online retailers because sometimes I couldn't find a game I wanted stocked at local stores and was sometimes able to find a second hand copy in newspaper listings within driving distance. Now days it's easy to find whatever I want brand new and usually at a very good price. My main concern with the proposed system would be if the servers were ever closed and if their direct download library dropped older games from the service. You can no longer purchase some of the original Xbox games you used to be able to through games on demand. I believe you can still download them if you already purchased them but they are no longer for sale.

I sell my games when I'm not going to play them anymore (hey, radical idea -- why not reach a Pareto optimal solution by letting someone who values the game at $30 have it when I now value it at $0), so I've always benefitted from the used-games market. I also buy perhaps 1/3 of my games on the used game market, although nowadays I'm pretty happy to pre-order the AAA titles I want, play them through, and then sell them on eBay.

I have a vast collection of games and systems that came out before I was born or when I was very young (Atari 2600, 5200, 7800, NES, Master System, Colecovision, Vectrex, Intellivision, Odyssey 2, Lynx, Game Gear, SNES, Genesis, SEGA CD, Game Boy, 3DO, Jaguar, Turbografx-16 etc). SEGA Saturn was the first system I was really old enough to follow as it came out.

I don't buy used from gamestop and such usually, but I will buy used from Amazon sometimes (if it is like new and trusted seller).  I used to share a lot of games with buddies, sell my games to buddies, and so on.

I agree with most of this. I hate seeing games for 55 I can get new for 60. unused pristine. And I disagree with capaho,in therory the data is the same, but in practice I have seen discs in condition they should have been trashed not resold. As mentioned by others I usually buy used for older games you are not going to find new even in greatest hit compilations( ie yakuza series) and there are also games I take a chance on but would have not bought new and unopened even at 20 dollars( like bulletstorm which became my favorite shooter this gen) never mind games that are worth playing but not 60 dollars worth( dark sector I am looking at you). As for teh other equation I am not nor have I ever been a major collector, nor caught in nostalgia land. when I am done with a game I am usually done. So I trade in the games I will never play again sometimes adding cash too to buy new unopened games. So yes I like the used industry and do not think it needs to go anywhere, without I would just buy less and take less chances on new things.

95% of my collection, 50+ this gen, is pre played. I was late entering this gen, so I decided to buy used. Did not spend more than $14.99 on a title.

Used games give me the ability to play a game that looks interesting even if I don't agree with the publishers' practices. Piecemeal DLC, On Disc Content, and Online passes got you down? Play the game and give the finger to the publishers all at the same time. Because let's face it: boycotting crumbles every time.

Bought Skyrim used and it gave me the satisfaction of knowing Bethesda - who released a broken version on my console - didn't get a cent for my purchase.

Bought Resistance 2 used for about $6.50.  Got to play a game I probably wouldn't have bought if it cost any more because I was only vaguely interested in it.

Bought Bulltestorm used.  Didn't like it at all, glad I didn't pay anything more than the bare minimum for it.

Traded in GT5 and I think I got $45 for it.  Bought the XL version much later for less than that.

Traded in Rage.  Didn't like it, happy to get some money back for it.

Traded in Dead Island, same as above.

I was planning on getting other games with my trade-in credits, but I guess Amazon lets you use your credits for just about anything, so my wife bought pants with them.  :?

I usually buy all of my games new.  However, there are a number of titles that I missed on release that I've bought second-hand, simply because they were 'out of print', ie, no new copies were available from any retailers.  Without the used game market, I would not have been able to obtain those games.

I can experience classic gems I missed out on.

Metal Gear Solid 2 is dirt cheap if you can find it used at Gamestop.

ANYONE WHO HAS A PS2 AND DOESN'T HAVE MGS2, GET IT NOW!!!

I only recently started playing Xenoblade Chronicles. Not sure how I got my hands on a copy of this impossible to find game, but I was lucky to find it used at a nearby Gamestop.

They've saved me a lot of money, they've allowed me to buy games that have long since gone out of print, their cheaper price has made me more open to trying new games, which has turned me on to a lot of new franchises.

The list goes on. I'd have to rethink my participation in gaming if used games were gone.

Withoutthe used games and rental then I would buy less new games.

I've benefited by being able to play some titles I wouldn't had before. Enslaved, for example, bought it on a whim after it was recommended by the Gamestop employee. Absolutely loved it.

Purchase all my games new, that being said - I only buy my most anticipated games @ $60 - for instance "The Last of Us" I just recently purchased. I try to never go above $30 price point when purchasing any new games.

The whole used game thing bothers me a little when guys take advantage of it. If you have a chance to purchase a game new for $10 or even $20 and people still go the used route it definetly bugs me, but it is what it is.

Buying used it great for older games that you may not be able to find new. Anymore, though, I just wait to new games to become as cheap as used games and pick them up then. I haven't paid 60 dollars for a game in quite a while.

Getting some great games that are either new or older and aren't available new anymore at great prices. Simples.
