Alright so today i was trading from gen 1 to gen 1( Red & Blue), using my sp link cable and my friends. It wasn't working so we tried and tried new way and we ended having to look it up. Anyway, i figured out you need a Gameboy Pocket/Color trading cable. That being true, how am i supposed to trade gen 1 to gen 3, and if that didnt work gen 1 to gen 2, then gen 2 to gen 3? Is there no way? I really wish there was....
Please help me out, i'm pretty sure there's a way but i can't figure out how, thanks alot!

Impossible. Hardware limitations aside, the data structure is completly different. You say you did a google search, but this is pretty common knowledge.

Actually if they had made the right connectors, it would've been very possible to transfer things from Gen I into Gen III. But like you mentioned, the data structure is completely different and therefore it made Gen II and Gen III completely incompatible.

I almost thought this was a thread from 2003, *laughs* anyways Fire Red and Leaf Green solves all of your problems while Red & Blue should only be used for nostalgia trips.

Yeah, they could have forced it, but it was probably more trouble than it was worth, and they took the chance to revamp the mechanics at the same time. Since they got around to remakes of gen 1/2, it was eventualy for the best.

Fire Red & Leaf Green are the games to get that are compatible with Ruby, Sapphire & Emerald.
