Are reviews solely based on the opinion of one person or do they have to be checked for approval and a consensus by other workers at GameSpot?

I recall that their must be some sort of census between the staff members, especially regarding the score, before it is posted.

I think a 2nd oppinion is applyied when a game scores very high or very low, im not sure if there are a consensus with the 6-8 gap.

If the game has the words "Call of Duty" or "Halo" in it's title, the review machine automatically shats out a 10/10

If the game is mainstream but neither Call of Duty nor Halo, it spits out a 8/10

All other games get a 6/10

If you're asking how Gamespot staff write reviews then it's probably like this :

I recall that their must be some sort of census between the staff members, especially regarding the score, before it is posted.

If you're asking how Gamespot registered members write reviews, then it's probably anything goes. Within the rules ( thatnobody really reads )of course.

By and large the reviews themselves are well-written; however, a numerical rating will always be subjective.

in the PC section, they'll take the console review add the obligatory " this game looks better on PC. " line and then keep the score even or deduct .5 points. if it's a PC exclusive then I think they wait until 40 other reviews are done, then review the game using other reviews points just worded differently. Console games...Well it depends on advertising and hype. If there is a lot of advertising and hype for the game, it's 9.0 - 10. No hype and a little advertising then it ranges around 6.0-8.0 a little of both hype and advertising then it's 8.0 - 9.0

You naturally have the evidence to back your claims up, of course?

ha. It seems that alot of older reviews were only personal, gamespot scores have alot of big differences (in a negative way) compared to other sites. Most people would recognize a classic when they play it.

I read through all of the posts and it seems no one really knows.
