The Super Nintendo Entertainment System launched in North America 25 years ago today (August 23, 1991).

The SNES was the best-selling console of the 16-bit era (Sorry, Sega) and still to this day remains popular among fans, collectors, and retro gamers.

I'm sure we all have fond memories of the games for this system, join us in celebrating the consoles 25th birthday by sharing your top five SNES titles!

The SNES is such a classic from a golden age of videogaming. Here's hoping Nintendo can recapture some of that magic for their upcoming "NX". Fingers crossed.

My personal favorites...

Street Fighter 2 Turbo

Super Mario Kart

Super Mario World

Super Metroid

Super Castlevania IV

Happy 25th birthday SNES, how time flies. It was such an awesome system with a lot of excellent games. So hard to pick a top five but mine would be:

1. Chrono Trigger

2. Final Fantasy III

3. The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past

4. Contra III: The Alien Wars

5. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time

SNES was the first console my Dad ever brought home for me. Game that came with it was none other than Zelda Link to the Past.

Great memories of Street Fighter 2 and Mortal Kombat 2 with friends.

Super Nintendo is the best console of all time and durable as hell. 25 years later, mine is still plugged to my TV and still works.

Never owned a SNES. I joined Sega's side during the First Console War.

Top 3 since I didn't own too many SNES games when I was very little:

  1. Super Mario World
  2. Yoshi's Island
  3. Tiny Toons: Bust Breaks Loose (I think it was called that)

But now I'd say number 1 is Super Metroid

To name a few favorites:

F-Zero

Donkey Kong

Bubsy

Syndicate wars

NBA Jam

There were a few gems that I never got to see or play until way down the track when Playstation 1 came out. I ended missing the Super Nintendo so I bought a 2nd hand one at the markets and I was seeing all kinds of cool games I never knew existed. As i'd mainly rent games out at the local video shops and they didn't have many on the shelf.

I never heard of Mega Man back in that era, Super Metroid liked it, but think it was to hard.
