A lot of great innovative things occurred for gaming in gen 8 (a lot of bad stuff too). 4K HDR. Battle royale shooters. Hero shooters. Dolby Atmos. Gaming as a service/on demand.

But the one thing that will stick with me is Nintendo perfected console quality gaming at home and on the go. I'm still amazed that I can play Breath of the Wild in my media room plus on the go at the airport with little to no quality compromise.

VR. VR is brilliant. it's the most interesting thing by far to come out of the industry this gen. It's still in it's infancy but even the first 10 minutes of HL Alyx will be a vivid memory till my dying day. it really is just one of those proper "WOW" things we dont get a lot of these days. It's a really interesting sector of the industry to look at.

I plan to get a PS5 and will probably get a PSVR2 as well too. VR wipeout. I have tried a rough attempt at it....its very cool :).

Also a big shout out to the steam controller. I'm disappointed (though not surprised) that nothing was taken from that controllerfor the PS5 and XSX. for the type of games being made today it's a big improvement over the old dual stick setup. They didn't even add flappy paddle buttons as standard to either controller which is just bizarre.

VR nothing comes close to the WOW factor this gen especially the first time I tried it total game changer I can't wait to see what next gen will be like.

Definitely the Nintendo Switch. Having a console/handheld hybrid is just too cool.

The beta test of the Switch. AKA the Wii U.

Though the Switch Lite is a pretty good little handheld console to be fair, so I'll just say the Switch and leave it at that. Nothing else really came out at me as initiative, unless you want to count using external hard drives on the PS4/Xbox one. But the PC could do that for some time albeit in a more...limited state if you got the right set up.

VR, and nothing is remotely close to it.

Haters gonna hate, though.

Yeah I am anxiously awaiting the next iteration of VR. I got an Index which is more like gen 1.5 and it is simply incredible.

I can only guess what "2.0" will be. Hand tracking instead of controller, complete elimination of screen door effect (Index almost has it eliminated, but it's still there), station-less/head-mounted tracking....who knows?

Innovation is about new experiences with new ideas, within a new method. So it does go to Virtual Reality. Even if I'm not a vocal supporter for the technology, or see myself investing in any VR head-set; will give credit its due.

Definitely Virtual Reality, for PC. PSVR or mobile experience is bad.

The Switch is an awesome little thing. I'd happily consider it the best Nintendo product.

Besides that, the instant recording and sharing of video clips and Shareplay on PS4 are really cool ideas but can't say I made much use of them.

@GalvatronType_R: I vote for the switch as well. Playing mario party in the rain when camping was epic.

This. Best gaming product I've owned in years.

Switch is so awesome, people name it as the best part of the generation before it.
