Can be a series of games or just standalone.

Ones that come to mind:

FF7 (Played it on Steam for the first time last year.)

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (Played the 3DS game in 2015)

Psychonaughts (Again, played it on Steam in 2015.)

Mario Kart Double Dash (Played this around 2017 on the Gamecube.)

@sakaixx: I've owned the PS1 port of Crono Trigger for about 15 years now. Still haven't started. I should get on that.

Anyway, some notable ones; Super Metroid in 2006, Omega Boost in 2013, Persona 4 in 2015.

The PS1 port sucks. I mean, if it's all you have it's still an awesome game, but the loading times will get annoying really fast. I'd recommend the Steam or DS version over that, if those options are available to you.

@SOedipus: That's good to know, maybe I'll get the steam version if I see it cheap. Thanks.

Games you played well after their release and ended up loving?

Too many to name honestly.

An example of this anything from before my birth which includes a lot of the 16-bit and pre generations of gaming would make this list. The likes of Pac-Man, CastleVania, D00M, Tetris, and Super Mario Bros.

If the gameplay is solid, and more importantly fun I'm probably a fan.

If games are "good for their time" because they looked pretty, did some revolutionary gimmick? less likely to be impressed.

Catherine for X360. I never owned a PS3 or X360 and was always interested in this game. Bought an Xbone a year or 2 ago and managed to track down a used copy for it last year. I loved every minute of it, the game was exactly what I imagined it to be.

Quite a few of my favorite games I played well after release. Games like Doom 3, Deus Ex 1, F.E.A.R. Even Fallout 3 was new territory for me because prior to that I wasn't a fan of rpgs.

Ok. I think I will have the oldest title here. I just started Fallout New Vegas and its pretty darn good. Story and game pacing are just right. Very fun to play. My sons have been telling me for years to give it a try and with the lock down going on now, I actually have time.
