we tend to get attach to the game story while we play them,, the game that made me cry for the first time was metal gear solid 4, specifically the cutscene where liquid escapes in europe .
so what was the game that made you cry??

I don't think I've ever full on cried during a game but some that made me tear up are The Last of Us, Journey and The Walking Dead.
Not full out cry, but To The Moon made me very emotional for some reason. It's a very simple game with fairly bad dialogue at times. But for some magical reason it just worked. I can't explain why, but I would recomend it to anyone who wants to try something different :). Should be dirt cheap.
Halo Reach came close. Every other possible tearjerk moment in games elicited pretty much either a dropped jaw, or a brief thoughtful pause and whispered 'goddammit'. In "Reach" I had to PLAY as that sacrificial lamb, in the most literal interpretation and part of me knew it was coming.
Just not like that.
You might as we'llve had me as a first person 'william wallace' in Braveheart screaming "freeeeedom" before getting offed.

Hmm, honestly i dont get that attached to any games i play so no game has made me cry.
Also men dont cry.... ;)
No game has made me cry. But Mass effect series made me very emotional at some parts.
I did cry when mom took away my Nintendo right when I got Super Mario bros 3 when I was a kid. Worst punishment ever.
@yukushi: What's wrong with being a 5 year old girl?
Anyhow, no game has really made me cry, which is a shame because there is potential for it to happen, however games haven't reached that level yet where the focus is truly on creating a depressing situation between two characters. The Last of us falls slightly short from that, due to its setting. I think about the movies that have made me cry, 3 or 4, and they usually deal with health related subjects: aids, Alzheimer and a stroke. Really odd to see that happening in a game.
The only game that has made me tear up, almost cry, was: Shadow of the Colossus. The last 30 minutes of the game are devastating,
I can't think of a game that got to me the way a good film or a well made television show could.
Which is weird, because other emotions are more easily attained through immersive gameplay. Dread can easily manifest from a good atmospheric horror game. A well made funny game can elicit laughter quite easily. Same goes with that chilling feeling I got playing Fallout 3 the first time I stepped into the National Mall area and saw the devastation. It was horrific, and delightful that a game gave me those feelings.
And GTA has certainly found a way to make me feel full-blown uncomfortable in whole new ways with some of it's missions. But flat out crying? I don't mean to be macho when I say that I cannot recall that happening. But I very much look forward to the day when it happens. Perhaps that is what will make a game truly transcendent.
I did get a bit misty at the end of Halo 4, but I'm a big ol' softy for those characters.

I forgot about To The Moon. That game was very emotional for me too. Its a weird love story with strange but endearing dialogue but it all just works for me. The music added a lot to as-well.
No game has made me cry but there are some games that made me really sad like Crisis Core, Silent Hill 2 (the water ending) and some other ones but I forgot the title.
There's this game called The Witch's House that nearly made me cry.
The only game to physically bring tears to my eyes was Clannad. Other than that, the Crisis Core ending also made me feel sad, as well as a few other games to an extent, like DQ V, Lufia II, FF VII, FF X, MGS 3, and Steins Gate, for example. However, Clannad was the only one to actually bring tears to my eyes for real.
Anyway, there have been several Japanese lists of tear-jerkers:
Dengeki (2008)
Famitsu (2011)
...Can't say I agree with the top choice, but a lot of them are good choices. Personally, I would have placed Clannad at the top though.

Yeah you are right about the music, think it made a massive difference. It's weird though how they were able to get so many emotions out of the very pixelated characters just by they way they stood/walked, mionor eye movements etc.
The beginning of The Last of Us had me tearing up but not crying. I don't believe a game has ever made me cry....just plucked a few heartstrings here and there.
I agree with this. The ending of RDR was pretty shocking.
None, they're just toys.
Rofl, some games can convey a story much better than some movies and books.
Do honestly think video games still just toys? Games don't necessarily have to surpass books or movies as an art form, but games certainly are art, especially when you factor not only story and graphics, but also gameplay.
