first off just wana say i think GG is a very underrated handheld, IMO its better than some that have come after it. the downside was the 46 batteries it took at lasted like 2 hours lol.

So what were some of your favorite GG games?

i used to play the crap (well still do) outta Streets of Rage and Clutch Hitter

I still own my Game Gear and play it from time to time. The sound has mostly gone out, though (which is a common problem with the aging handheld). You can barely hear it with the volume knob turned all the way up. Luckily, with headphones, the sound works fine; which also means computer speakers work for when at home.

I can agree that the hardware is definetly better than the Game Boy. But unfortunately, the game library for Game Gear could hardly equal Game Boy's. The best thing Game Gear had going for it was portable Sonic games. The MK games were supposed to be a killer app for it, but they turned out horrible.

My favorites for the Game Gear:

  • Columns
  • Cool Spot
  • Shinobi II: The Silent Fury
  • Ristar
  • Sonic the Hedgehog 1 & 2
  • Sonic Chaos
  • Sonic Blast
  • Sonic Triple Trouble
  • Streets of Rage 2

My favorite handheld of all time. Way ahead of it's time. Took Nintendo up until the GBA SP to remotely catch up.

Games I recommend and own :

(Pretty much any sonic game) Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic 2, Sonic Chaos, Sonic Triple Trouble, Sonic Spinball, Sonic Blast (Kind of expensive and hard to find).

- Columns, Beavis and Butthead, Jurassic Park, Ristar, Xmen, mortal kombat, mortal kombat 2, ren and stimpy, nba jam, and a few others i have forgotten but there are plenty of good titles

Game Gear Shinobi - Excellent, under-appreciated Shinobi game

Game Gear Shinobi 2

Crystal Warriors - RPG

Deep Duck Trouble - Sega disney licence (think Castle of Illusion)

Coca Cola Kid- Sega game that kind of plays like Shinobi

Defenders of Oasis - another RPG

Game Gear Aleste - excellent scrolling shmup

Game Gear Aleste 2

Kishin Douji Zenki - platformer

Ninja Gaiden - Exclusive, its a nice game, but doesn't feel very authentic to the series

Tails Adventures

Sonic Chaos

Sonic Triple Trouble

Slider - puzzle game

Columns

Shining Force II - RPG

Land of Illusion - Sega made Disney platformer

Legend of Illusion - another Disney platformer

Asterix and the Secret Mission - Sega made licence game similar to their Disney stuff

Master of Darkness - Castlevania clone

Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap - Action Adventure game

Lucky Dime Caper

MKII, Fatal Fury, and Samurai Shodown were cool at the time, but a bit redundant these days.

I actually broke out my Game Gear a couple of weeks ago and beat Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and Power Rangers: The Movie.

Been wanting to expand my Game Gear collection

The Game Gear is such an awful machine looking back. I only have 5 games for it, but I find Wonderboy to be the most playable. I'm glad that the 3DS will (EVENTUALLY...) bring back some Game Gear games.

Sonic 2 on Game Gear had some great music. I still have two Game Gears, but they both don't even work.
